Setup different landing pages depending on where the traffic is coming from...

If you've got various traffic sources, it can be tough to track what's actually converting.
Let's say you've got 1000 hits on your website, and 30 leads = 3% conversion like you said...

What if all 30 leads came from 200 hits that you got from article marketing, and the other 800 hits came from the traffic exchanges and yielded no results? Now you know what you should focus your time on...

Testing and tracking is HUGE when it comes to marketing...

It sounds like you're off to a great start for your first week! Keep it up!

Hi Calum
One major factor is to put your efforts into generating "quality" leads and traffic that produce income.

Another way to put it:
Taking Traffic Swarm as an example...
"How many dollars have been placed directly into your bank account for every click you made to produce the required points for a visitor to your site?"

I don't know the exact point system and so forth but lets just say it takes you 50 points or clicks to get one visitor to your site. And let's assume you make $100 for every sale you make. If you're site converts at 2.9%, then for every 100 visitors you get you will make roughly 3 sales. Next thing is to identify your target monthly income [TMI] and convert it to target daily income [TDI].
Let's look at the math:

Target Monthly Income (TMI): $3500
Target Daily Income (TDI): $117
($3500 / 30 = $117)

100 visitors x 50 points = 5000 clicks.
$100 commission x 3 sales = $300 commission.
$300 commission / 5000 clicks = $0.06 revenue per click (RPC)

TDI [$117] / RPC [$0.06] = 1950
So in order to reach your TDI you will need to generate 1950 clicks per day.

Let's say you can generate 300 clicks per hour.
300 clicks x $0.06 [RPC] = $18 per hour.
1950 daily clicks / 300 clicks per hour = 6.5 hours to reach your TDI.

** Obviously I don't know your exact numbers, but you get the point.

Some other things to consider...

- Look at everything you do from this perspective. Identify which marketing channels are producing $$$ in your bank account and do more of that. Learn how to do it better. Then do more of it. Anything that is not producing, drop it fast, no hesitation. Don't try to rationalize it, don't try to fix it. If one thing works and another doesn't, then only do what works. Don't waste your time on things that do not give you immediate results. Once you have a steady income of sort coming in, then you can go experiment with alternative traffic sources.

- Tracking is critical, so make sure nothing you do is implemented blindly. Track Everything! Even the slightest change in ad copy or your display URL, the color you choose for a headline, the page background, font sizes, which site you placed your ads on, where they showed on the page.... literally anything and everything that you CAN track, make sure you are tracking it.

Just bust out a simple spreadsheet and catalog everything you do. I also recommend a business journal, digital or paper, whichever one you will use consistently, and write down all of your ideas, your strategies, what's working, what didn't work, what your thoughts and feelings were on a campaign or project. If you go digital, it's still a good idea to get a little notebook you can carry with you. I keep one with me all day, even in the bathroom, to write down my thoughts and ideas. You never know when you'll have an "ah-ha" moment and you don't want to miss those. Keep it by your bed at night. Some of my best stuff came directly out of dream session and when I woke up I had a way to capture it. That stuff is priceless and disappears quick if you don't catch it.

- YouTube, and more so Video Marketing in general will be one of your most effective strategies on a tight budget. Making the videos is free, aside from the cost of a camera, and every computer comes with enough free software to get you started. There is no limit as to how many videos you can make which opens up huge possibilities for you. Use TubeMogul.com to syndicate your videos on multiple video sharing websites. Optimize the video listing text to reflect your keywords and always place a link to your money site at the beginning of the text. make sure you include http: so that it hyperlinks.

- Keep hanging out in the forums. You will learn and network at the same time. Contribute and add value.

- Don't forget about web 2.0 properties either. Squidoo, Hubpages, Blogs, etc. Check out Go2Web20.net for a huge list of sites. Find the ones that fit your niche then check them at Alexa.com. Pick the ones that get good traffic and create a profile there then start adding content.

- You may also want to try article marketing. Ezinearticles.com is the old standby where you can submit articles with your links.

- Use Craigslist.com. This can be very effective when you do it right. Do your homework though. It is very easy to get it wrong and ruin a great FREE source of leads.

- Don't forget about OFFLINE marketing. You can get 250 free business cards from VistaPrint.com. Put the URL to your squeeze page on the cards and create copy that reads like a mini billboard on the card. Find places to leave them like coffee shop counters and other places that provide space for them to be displayed. In my town all the coffee shops and a lot of other places have a little place on the counter somewhere that you can put a little stack of your cards. I like to leave one in the bill fold when I eat out... right in front of a healthy tip for my server. [oh yeah, I talk to them too during the meal ;) ]

Also, don't forget about your upline. [assuming you are doing network marketing] It's a pain in the arse to do this on your own so plug into your team leaders. Find out what they are doing. First thing I did when I joined my company was start calling the leaders at the very top to get some face time or a phone conversation with them. Don't be arrogant or tell stories that you are going to be the next super star in their organization. Be humble. These guys have done it and you can learn a lot from them. Simply introduce yourself and explain that you are excited about the business and would like to know if it would be ok to email them occasionally when you get stuck. More times than not they will be happy to give you their email address and offer to help you however they can. Leaders love it when people reach out and show initiative... just don't abuse their time and the valuable connection you made. Then work your ass off to show them you were serious. They WILL remember you.

The same goes for your sponsor. Don't abuse that connection either. Remember they brought you in so try to work with them first. Having that close connection will always make things easier and you can joint venture much easier. Start going up the line if they are just casual members until you find the next active leader in your group. But the closer you can keep that first connection the better; in so much as they are really doing the stuff. But never for a minute hesitate to go higher. This is your business and you need to do what you need to do. But be professional, you don't want burn any bridges.

- Aside from all of that, you really just need to find a system for processing your traffic that will afford the highest conversion rates you can find. Sounds like you may have that, so keep working on the traffic. Take consistent, daily action and you will see results.

- And last but not least, don't over look your marketing talents. What skill set do you have that could be used to make you money doing that thing for someone else? Can you create killer graphics? Are you really good at copy writing? Whatever it is, use that to make money. Promote your self as that expert and provide your services for a fee to all the networkers, business owners, internet marketers, etc. out there that need your services. Don't forget to go local too. local businesses can be a goldmine if you can help them be more effective or efficient in their marketing.

Hope that helps.
