tracking

Postby francine pullman on Fri Feb 06, 2009 4:04 am

Most of my advertising MS and BOAB etc is through articles and email. While I secured and redirected a domain name ages ago, I have not really done any tracking. I know I know I know this is BAD but...What is the best way to use tracking with affiliate LCP without buying 100 domain names? I have even bought a subscription to a tracking program but found I cannot use the tracking link in email campaigns. Totally stumped. :?

You could track simple hits with budurl.com , but you wouldn't know where the conversions were coming from.

It used to be that you could track individual campaigns for conversions. I truly wish they'd bring that feature back! It was that level of tracking that was a huge turning point for my online efforts back in '05!

Mag Spon techies, please bring back tracking of campaigns!

I've used tracking software (like adtrackz) for email marketing before. All I did was make a tracking link, and then hide the actual link in tinyurl.com. Works great and I've never had a problem submitting them to ezines before.

Tracking hits is one thing, its the CONVERSION info that is truly valuable.

I have one campaign that gets me 60% conversion on PPC, the other was getting me tons of HITS, but few conversions. If I didn't track conversions, I'd wrongfully assume that the one getting the hits was better and keep throwing money at it.

I would use subdomains which are very easy to setup.
or
You could go with viralurl which does the tinyurl while getting paid for it as it also functions as a listbuilder which I highly recommend.

both ways you can just specify which link you are placing and then just track hits.

If your marketing system you employ now lets you do multiple campaigns then this is easy. I would NOT send all my traffic to the Magnetic Sponsoring Capture page. That should be your back end product which you can track easily.

Setup multiple campaigns like stated above and then you can break it down to where people are coming from and how you are converting them.

You can do it all yourself or just plug in an customize which I recommend for anyone newer or strapped on time.

You have a couple options here, you can try out some of the few great free sites out there like BudUrl but be warned and do your research on these sites as I have personally experienced sites like HopURL actually steal some of my clicks and redirects.

Your best bet is to just start creating subdomains. If you have a hosting service and have a domain you should be able to create an unlimited amount of subdomains - and these are free to do as well. lol don't spend money on new domains just to track - e.g. http://createwithnate.com is my domain - Hostgator allows me to create as many subdomains as I please like http://createwithnate.com/mscampaign1 http://createwithnate.com/mscampaign2 and so on and so on and they are a cheap & reliable hosting service by the way.

Hope this helps :D
