Are You Ready to Go To Paris?

Postby Charlie Howe on Wed May 14, 2008 4:36 am

Image Here I sat at nine o'clock at night. A friend called me and told me that he had two tickets to Paris, France. Flights, hotel and transfers, I could get for free. This trip included five nights in a five-star hotel, round-trip first-class airfare from Dallas, food, personal limo, personal yacht, and all gratuities were included.

And you're saying "Most people would kill for this trip."

The only catch was we had to be at the airport at five o'clock tomorrow morning. When I told my wife about it, she said there is no way we could make it. "I have to get my hair and nails done, I need some new shoes, I have clothes at the cleaners, I have to get packed, what about our pets?" "and I will not be able to get any sleep tonight." Blah blah blah.

How many of you would take that trip if it were offered to you? Just how badly would you want to go to Paris?

Of course that's just a story. But it has deep meaning. How badly do you want to become financially independent? Are you willing to get packed to go early to your retirement party? Or, are you just going to make excuses for not going to Paris?

This little parable came from a great man called Zig Ziglar. He explained in his speech that most people make excuses not to reach out for the brass ring in life. Most people make excuses rather than making headway.

To achieve your goals (if you have set them), you must do the most important things and let the low priority chores be put on the back burner. Each time I pick up the telephone, I ask myself "Is this helping me get closer to my goals?" Do I want to call a friend and shoot the bull, or pick up the phone and make another 25 calls to prospects? Which one will help me get to Paris?

As you go through your daily goals and chores, ask yourself the question. "Will this help me get to Paris?"

Thanks, Zig!

My "Paris" is owning my own restaurant. So will this help me create "Elemental Unity Club and Eatery"

Great post Charlie! Loved it. I'm a big fan of Zig Ziglar and heard him speak while I was in college in Dublin - he changed my whole way of thinking.

Thanks for the link Tybask.

Cheers,

Michele

You know,

My girlfriend would be waking me up
at 3:30am regardless to how we looked
and pull me to the airport.

She's a travel fiend.

Your post is true though, most people
would rather watch Wheel of Fortune
then become financially free.

The bottom line was if getting there
was easy everyone would be living on
an island sipping on umbrella drinks.

That's why you want to spend your
time looking for quality people
who will work and put the rest out
of your head.

John

Great story, Charlie.

As I was reading, I was thinking how crazy that anyone wouldn't take up the trip... but I'm a travel fiend like John's girlfriend!

Zig Ziglar is one of my favourite speakers, and I think 50% of that is because of his amazing accent.

Thanks for the link Tyreek.

Katie,

Dream as big as you want to dream! You have to set goals and don't let anything hold you back.

A wise man told me once that 'If your WHY is big enough, it will make you cry'

How big is your why and what are you doing to run after it?

Don't let anyone steal your dream!
