Re: How Do You Not Advertise On Facebook?
Hello Mario IMHO Facebook converts much better than Adwords, however CPC is very high, so i suggest you browse popular MMO forums and buy FB ads vouchers, which are 10x cheaper. Good Luck!

Re: How Do You Not Advertise On Facebook?
You are allowed to "meet" strangers on Facebook.
You are allowed to market to them if you buy an ad or have their permission. (Permission is very easy to get. I know how.)
What you MUST NOT do is use Facebook as a free advertising source, posting your links everywhere, inviting people to opportunity-themed groups, events, etc., and emailing people about your stuff when they didn't ask for it.
So there are two kinds of people on Facebook:
1) Those who run through Facebook like Jerry Lewis with a chainsaw, until they get blocked or can't add any more friends and don't know why; and...
2) Those who quietly add people to their business all the time, behind the scenes, without rejection and embarrassment.
If people know what MLM you're in, and didn't ask you... they're rejecting you, even if you're not embarrassed about it. And just because you don't see, hear, of feel them rejecting you, it's happening with just a few clicks of their mouse.
If you can't add any more people, it's because you've set off Facebook's spam alarm, or people have reported you (all they have to do is click next to whatever you've posted. There's also a link in the bottom left-hand corner of your profile where they can report/block you, and GIVE A REASON.)
If you want to do it the easy way, and NOT get banned, just get out of that "got to put it out there" mentality and deal with people individually. They don't want to be your "sales object". Show them feelings, and respect.
It'll take longer, but work better.

Re: How Do You Not Advertise On Facebook?
Facebook is a place for connecting with complete and total strangers. The social networks work great when you can get the social proof of others. For this reason I love blogging, videos, content, etc...
When I share a piece of content, and say 15 or 20 people click the like button or share it, a newcomer will automatically assume that I'm sharing good content. SOCIAL PROOF.
The key though is to not blatantly pitch products on the social networks, but rather to get to know people and talk with them. Some of them will visit your blog or content and join your mailing list. That's where you can advertise your business to them. Once they're on your list you can pitch your business everyday.
But always think "How can I help this person, what are they looking for, and what solution can I offer" If you can solve 1 or more of their problems then it's very easy to get them to join your team.

And none of them are my real friends.
Cool idea! I did not know about that site, thanks! I already started a project, not Facebook, but something else, Thanks again!

Re: How Do You Not Advertise On Facebook?
Hi! If you want to do this in a manner that is once removed you can create a fan page for your business side of things and then advertise that. Facebook is actually good for advertising right now as they do have some great tools to work with. You can actually very narrowly target on Facebook as well so you are targeting your exact audience and not your friends, per se.
Hope that helps,
Cara

Re: How Do You Not Advertise On Facebook?
From my point of view you should never advertise your business on a social site. You should use the site to gather friends that have the same interests that your have such as real estate, health, auto racing etc. Once you gather new friends then you should build some relationships with them. In the course of conversation, what type of business may come up and you can share that information with them at that time. Keep it simple and do not come across as a 'master manipulator' (everyone hates to be played) that through some clever slight of hand you will introduce your primary business. Be honest and truthful and put yourself in their shoes....how do you respond to business 'opportunities' being launched at you?

Re: How Do You Not Advertise On Facebook?
Facebook Advertising Do's:
1. Post your Youtube videos on your Facebook profile
2. When you publish articles..post the link on your FB status.
3. Create a group for people in your target crowd. For example, if you're promoting weight loss, build a group about that.
4. If you have a medium sized to huge list of subscribers, build a "fan" page (but FB doesn't call it fan page anymore) and invite your subsscribers to "like" it.
5. Post announcements and event promptings using the Facebook Events feature. This is good for conference calls or live seminars...because people can RSVP for the event. This way you can expect the amount of attendees or participants.
6. Chat with your prospects just about anything under the sun. This is a good way for you to show them that you are a real person..not just a person behind the computer without a life.
7. many many more...
Facebook Advertising Dont's
1. Don't SPAM other people's inboxes
2. Don't create your Facebook profile or page like an opt-in page
3. Adding people you don't know and then inviting them to check out your offer.
4. Leaving affiliate links on random chatboxes
5. Don't tag strangers with photos of event announcements and any picture that doesn't concern them
6. Don't put sexy pics or photos of strippers as your primary profile pic (by far, this is one of the most annoying stunts done by MLMers on Facebook).
There are many more I haven't mentioned. Hope this gives you an idea of what to do and what not to do.

Re: How Do You Not Advertise On Facebook?
@Tom , I was talking about the ppc that facebook offers that has nothing to do with your actual friends. Facebook actually has more visits a day than Google so Google advertising and other advertising is becoming inferior to the FB PPC ads.
As for the people you are friends with , I completely agree. You should never advertise your business directly to them. I just wnated to clear that up if there was any confusion.
Thanks,
Cara
