Why Build A List?

Postby Mario Sanders on Sun Dec 26, 2010 6:33 pm

Since beginning on the BN site, I am adding people to my list. I do not hear from many of them to respond to their comments or articles. We come to this site to learn from each other and build a relationship together. I do not see thousands of people commenting on any of the articles over the past several months. :?
I was advised to get on Facebook this month to increase my coverage of friends. I have added several more friends to connect with. Only a few relatives and friends are on the site. My list of friends are still building with and without my permission. Who gets on facebook to connect with others on this site? :P
Any comments are welcome to explain why we are adding friends that we don't know and it takes a long time to even talk to online to get to know better.

This is a major point and I believe it is the crux of being in a social network. I have had a lot of success in facebook recently and I want to give some of my experiences that will I hope will help you.

Firstly, you must know how to connect with people and build relationships or else the the list of friends will be just that, a list. Being in a social network gives you one huge advantage and that is the people on your list knows you are real person and that means you get establsih true human relationships with them.

Now don't wait for them, do something to get their attention. Sometimes they are quiet but they are watching. I found my current company through facebook not because I was looking for it but I was constantly posting some good quotes and religious sayings (I am that religious he he) and someone who was watching contacted me and said he liked my posts. We started connecting we both joined a group on Facebook about networking and I was also watching him. I found out he was an investor for 25 years so when he reccomended something I took it.

Thats how it happens. Have a list and do something. When they come on chat, just chat with them once in a while and build relationships. Try to influence the community you are in. Show that you know something, then they will start talking. On facebook, you can post something and all your friends and their friends see it, even if they nothing. Keep on doing it and something will happen. In a group, you either get influence and you influence. I do both.

That list is a long term thing and remember you got that list free and you can monetize it over time as your skills improve. If you have 100 networking friends on FB, they are 100 leads free of charge. I talk most about FB as I know more about it than other social sites.

Thanks Richard. Your article has been helpful. I have written several articles and some videos here and in the Health section. I do write on things from my own experience which may be able to help someone who comes along with the similar situation in mind..
Thanks David. I do make comments to some of the people on facebook. I write articles on things I do know about or have learned along the way.
I am reaching more people in the articles I have written. Sometimes I get a response that some people like the articles or they may ask what is the product I use in the article.
As I look back, I realize that I am making an impact on the lives of my friends list. They are reporting healthier diets and exercising added to their daily schedules.
Maybe I am only reaching a small group of friends, but those I have reached are becoming aware of their health and keeping a check on it.
Thanks again. I have learned something new again to keep on writing articles from my own experience to teach others to be mindful of their health! This has been my overall goal.

You may have heard that "the fortune is in the follow-up" , but if there is not people, there is not follow-up, I feel that building a list is always important, I have an example:

I came to the US years ago, I did not have contacts or friends, when I got into this business, I started building a list, I started with neighbors, then church members, referrals, people that I met who sold me insurance, my car, the mailman, etc, I started to going to free seminars, workshops, etc, the internet was in its infancy, I met some of the people through Prodigy, and aol, it paid very well, several million dollars!

I am still building my list, by using new tools, I am creating thousands of new contacts thanks to the internet, specially facebook, I don't stop, I know it will be helpful for my businesses, but also, I know I am helpful to others, you never stop! One of my mentors said that he wanted to have a million friends before he died, and he did it, and this was before the explosion of facebook, twitter, myspace, etc, He became very successful! and in the process, he inspired thousands before he died.

Yes, the list is important, if you use it right..

I agree a list is ESSENTIAL, if you build it right by using the various methods described in this thread & use it right. However, what is More important than Building your list, No matter what its for, is WHAT & HOW you say what you SAY to people on that list ~ in other words the EMOTIVE copy ( if using Social Media) or The EMOTIVE verbal, when face to face, as WITHOUT that, the list is redundant ( almost)

I know from bitter first hand INEXPERIENCE how hard this can be, but after Buying & DIGESTING the course, thats the last link shown on my profile, my results IMPROVED signifcantly & boy did I initially resist getting it!! ~ lol.

So when you get your copy write, your list becomes INVALUABLE & YOU become VALUABLE!

I hope thats of help & benefit to you a little.

Further to my above post, I tend to Net~Work Online using Forums, classified ads, like craigslist, BN, FACEBOOK, adland pro to name a few, NUMEROUS Safelists found through the Marketing Tool Box on SONAR 247, a few Traffic Exchanges, but am not totally convinced by them. and reciprocal Linking.

Offline I network at Business Meetings and also Do ceroc dancing, which is a great way to do Business offline, a sit brings you in to contact with what I think are Perfect Networkers ~ LADIES!!

i Hope this provides further benefit to you.

1. What do you have to offer?
You see, to build a list, you need to have something that is from YOU to offer. And please don't say products. Thousands after thousands have products. Thousands have blogs with same theme and front.

What have you to offer?

- What problem are you solving?
- What specialised skill set do you have to offer?
- Have you got training you've designed for your list to access?
- What is your strategy?

You see, here is where most make the mistake.

They use capture page, opt-in, direct people to their list. Or use facebook. For what?

Where does this lead to?

There needs to be a strategy. Step back for a moment and ask yourself these questions..

- Who are my target audience? And what work YOU have done in keyword research, in testing the information and finding out that they want this problem solved.

- What's your strategy because to just say I'm connecting is not enough. To say, so so said to do so, is crazy! A business does not make decisions on what others say but on testing, in making sure, their assumptions is based on clear facts.

What works for one person will not work for someone else because there is ONLY one YOU. So you're going to do everything different and even, miss out all steps I'm sharing right now. Most have. I know with one look.

You'll be busy being busy and have no results. As you're seeing now.

In other words mate, dig deeper into yourself. Close that computer off, internet off, sit down and approach it as this..

A) What is my business.
B) What do I want out of my business
C) What problem needed to solve with my targeted prospects. And how did I get that info? Have I tested it out and what does the results from the test say?
D) What front end proposal to create to educate them. And how did you find that was the information your prospects needs and hungry for?
E) Where will it lead next to give them more to increase my credibility and build trust.
F) What is now the OVERALL strategy from begining to end.
G) Which increases your credibilty, makes money but ALSO makes sense from begining to end, to later lead to MLM primary products you got.

.....H) where is YOUR platform. Yours, not company replica websites. Not articles on BN. Not facebook fan page. Not Facebook profile.

Yours that is ALL YOU. Owned by YOU. Create by YOU. Lead by YOU. Cannot access ONLY by your permission. Packed with YOUR own training your list can access.

What....Is...Your...Value? What have YOU to offer?

Notice how I'm not here often? Because that's what I'm preparing. And WITHOUT these I have 55 students businesses I'm mentoring who pay big bucks.

Must be doing something right, huh.

So take my questions, print them out, like an Eagle in the sky, hover at your business.

What do you see?

There's your answer.

Some serious questions mate to reflect on.

As one business asked me at my mentorship program...

"How do I DECIDE what to write, what interest prospects, what to do?"

The answer, "YOU DON'T."

The targeted prospect does. They search online, to get what they want, to buy what they want, to read what they want, to see who can LEAD them from where they are - to where they want to be.

Hence...get back to the Basics and forget what so, so said to do.

The basics..

Keyword research. Go and use tools, do the home work, and see what your targeted prospects needs are. And build around this with high value.

The rules have changed. It is not enough to have opt-in or to connect with Facebook - if you want to make money, sell products and build a SUSTAINABLE business.

Thanks Adam. Your article is a lot to take in and more to think about. I am working on it. It does takes time. You are very informative and inclusive on all areas I am searching for.
I am connecting with more of my friends and building a great relationship with many more friends.
My main goal from the start is having people become aware of their health issues. Changing our eating habits for better choices with more exercises and physical activity was added to reach more people.
I have been gathering information on people's health from a personal standpoint. I had health concerns and I feel that there are others who may be in the same position as I was.
As I met more people and connected with them, I needed a vehicle to promote that has helped me in my health issues. I introduced my products whenever someone asks how my health had improved.
My main goal also was to give people something that may improve their health concerns if only to let them know about the foods that are healthy for them and reduce salt in their diets.
People are responding positively back with me on their improved health. They are commenting on my articles that I have written and they like their change on life.
There are still some changes to be made and this is a work in progress.
Thanks!
