I would like to hear your thoughts on what to say to a prospect when you provide them with a DVD, magazine or some other type of marketing material? I think this question is geared toward a prospect who has yet to see a presentation.
I like to first ask the prospect if they will look at it. I ask them outright; "If I give you this DVD will you look at it?" If they say yes, then I follow up with another specific question; "How much time do you need to look at it?" I wait for their reply and act accordingly.
Whatever time frame they say, whether it's a day, two days or a week, I re-emphasize what they said by stating the following; "So if I call you back in one week ( I actually specify the day) you would have looked at the DVD, correct? "
By asking these questions, I am placing the onus on them to stay true to their word. I am having them acknowledge that they will look at it by a specific time. There is still always a chance that they won't look at it, but I have found that this technique increases the odds dramatically.
What are your thoughts?

I am assuming that you are pre-qualifying them with a statement like “Are you open to creating income without interfering with what you are doing now?” If they say “yes” then you follow with “when can you look at it?” I usually tell them that the CD/DVD is 20 min, 30min, an hour etc. when can you look at it? They say for example I can listen to it tonight when I get home from work. Then I say OK, great I will call you at 7 PM or Tuesday at 6pm whatever you want. Make sure you set the date and time and have them commit to it then when you call them back if they have not listened to it you say “well, I have someone else to get back to that listened/watched the DVD/CD I will have to call you back after you watched it. When will you have watched it? Then I let them say I will watch it right now and I say great I will call you in an hour etc.

Hi,
I always first qualify the prospect, I say something like "If you find a way to improve _____(state their problem or question) would you like to know more? if they say yes, I say "I have a 15 minutes DVD ____ that shows you how other people have ______, would you be wiling to watch it? " if they say yes, I hand it out but while I still have it in my hands I say "I need this video back by _____ because other people want to watch it, can you watch it by___? ok, I will call you tomorrow..

Hi Jay and George,
Great comments, thanks for your feedback. I should have indicated in my original post that the prospect would already have been qualified
Regards,
Vince

Thanks,
By the way, some people claim that passing out DVDs or magazines is a dead strategy, but it is not, it is alive and well, and it is very effective I may add,

...assuming that you had already pre-qualified that potential lead. Also as Mark Wieser says in his black belt recruiting series, you always have to attach value to that CD/DVD, magazine or whatever material you are using and never come across like you are asking them to do you a favor, if anything, you are doing them a favor by "giving them access" to a material that could eventually save their lives!
Just my 2 cents

One of my friends in another company has built a volume of over 20 million per year, and DVD was an essential part of his strategy, it is a forgotten tool that is coming back slowly..
