Getting traffic to your site is one thing.......

Postby Chris Tryon on Thu Feb 10, 2011 9:25 pm

I found this question on another networking site tonight, so I thought I would ask it to this panel of experts:

A person has figured out how to get traffic to their website, but they are not getting any sales.

What would be the best that advice you would give to that person to help them generate traffic AND sales?

If this is a blog, then the content needs to be of a higher quality.

Or you then need to do better at writing copy.

Example: Try a headline that tells the reader exactly what they are going to get.

"Six Secrets That Will Increase Your Sales By 200%"

You don't need to be a master copywriter, as long as you know the basics, the viewer will stay longer and want to engage in the content.

If this is for a squeeze page, copy is a big factor.

Find someone who knows copy and exchange skills,

"I'll SEO optimize your website, if you improve my copy on my website." :D

This is how you build those 'Tribes' you keep hearing about.

You don't have to be a mechanic, you just have to have a friend who is :D

.
If this were a client the very first place we'd start would be their sales/marketing funnel.
The entire machine from step 1 on down would be analyzed.
I use mindmaps to storyboard a complete funnel and the flow of the machine.
Once thats done we can usually identify problem areas immediately.

So my advice would be to lay out their entire machine, even on a whiteboard or paper, and look for possible problem areas.

Traffic is far too ambiguous these days and really doesn't mean anything without the rest of the story.

Hope that helps Chris.

I have to ask a couple of questions. what are this person's expectations in regards to sales/traffic ratio.

Conversion rates for TOP E-Tailers
1. ProFlowers 24.0 %
2. Vitacost 23.3%
3. 1800Flowers 19.5%
4. Roamans19.2%
5. Office Depot 18.5%
6. Blair 17.3%
7. QVC 17.0%
8. Victoria’s Secret 16.8%
9. DrsFosterSmith.com 16.4%
10. Amazon 16.4%

Now these are heavy hitters guys with GREAT TRUSTED BRANDS....

Richard, cut the says funnel crap out...it's BULL and you know it...marketing funnels are obsolete, solicitous mechanisms that troll cyber space...Really tired of hearing that crap...

Back to the question....if the guy has traffic, and no trust ...than no sales
But if he expects 7% his expectations are set too high. Standard Internet Conversions are .9 to 3%...this is documented...so leads me to the question, how much traffic is a lot of traffic..100 uniques a day is not a lot 1000 uniques a day is not a lot. 10,000, 20,000 and we are somewhere near a more stable number in regards to conversion rates.

Does his site convey a trust worthy presence ? sorry guys... who trusts their credit cards on UGLY SITES ? seriously...

Is his brand sticky ?

Is he harvesting an email list through simple signups and than blasting away to the inboxes of his potential customers ? and doing so aggressively to the point of becoming SPAM ?

There are a lot of mechanism's involved in making sales...
Is he marketing on BUY keywords ?
Example if I google Mercedes Benz, am I in buying MODE ? MAYBE NOT
If I google BEST MERCEDES DEALERS In (ENTER TOWN HERE), am I in buying MODE ? MORE SO

So it's more so marketing to individuals further along in the sales process, either by SEO, or PPC ....
But also REMEMBER THAT WEBSITES no matter how beautiful, or how intricate their SALES FUNNEL SYSTEMS ARE... a sale is not generated on YOUR EFFORT TO SWAY your prospect, but a sale is generated when the prospect is in BUYING MODE, on their TERMS

I personally make several 10's of thousands a month on adsense...with an army of BLOGS...I often see Apple and Toyota ads on my blogs, and they do get clicked...and I do make money, but my click ratio is a dismal 1.28 % ...

I would hope apple and toyota make a sale because of it, but the point is this EVEN MAJOR BRANDS, don't attract much of a BUYING audience especially ONLINE...

So again it's a matter of looking at the site, and it's keywords of which he/she is using for promotion
"LCD TV" searches on google may not harvest buyers
but
"Best Deals On LCD TV's" more than likely will

Just think about it, and use common sense, and stop falling for the BS of MARKETING/SALES FUNNELS CRAP

So, no matter what you are selling, the percentage of amounting sales from traffic is very low. Of course, if the person is in the market for what you are selling the percentage would be better.
A year ago, I told a friend about my programs for him to try to address his health issues. He said he would check it out.
Now, a year later, he has to take off from work, make doctor's appointments, lose time from work, and put on a very strict exercise program to get his health back in check. All because he did not listen to me prior.
He was in the market, but still did not take advantage of my simple offer.
I realize that in a down economy the percentages would be a little further down and less traffic turning into sales.
How much traffic you would need to generate a satisfying sales of your products?
I am getting a lot of traffic which seems to costs me more than its worth to get a sale. :?:
