HOWEVER, I DO use Twitter pretty much as a "shoutbox" as was mentioned in the original post. We keep a Twitter feed on the front page of our DollarCardMarketing.com site to keep front page content fresh and let people what we're up to from day to day. But honestly, I really don't keep up with that as much as I should. That reminds me.. I have to tweet now!

Give Me a Break: Stop the Twitter Vanity!

Re: Give Me a Break: Stop the Twitter Vanity!
With soooo... many different popular social network platforms available and constant inbound invites to "follow" everyone... I pretty much just use a couple (Facebook and just started with LinkedIn). There's NO WAY to genuinely keep up with all of them and have a productive day at the same time.

Yeah..despite its flaw..I still use the twitter for my shoutouts and sometimes for marketing products as well.

WOW! Interesting to say the least. Many great points in this discussion and definitely many to learn from as well. I believe that Mike is looking at the business aspect of his decision and I have to say I agree with his ideology.
As a result and learning how to look at the business aspect of being involved with Social Media I must take steps to better my selecting of who I should follow or allow to socialize with me as well.
When I think of a reason why Mike might have done what he did, I come up with a quote that was told to me by my grandmother when I was a young kid, " Tell Me Who You Hang Out With And I Will Tell You Who You Are ". I believe this applies to his method of thought and should be transcended across to the rest of the community but of course it would ultimately be up to each individual.

Re: Give Me a Break: Stop the Twitter Vanity!
I have read this (yes all the 10 pages) And know its quite an old thread - but something that is really in your face just now!
he/she unfollowed me so I'm gonna unfollow him/her....playground stuff (egos get in the way so many times!)
Why would Mike Dillard (or some- one like Mike )follow me? what reason have I given him....
I think in all due respect, these guys are THE guys! I started my online journey very differently to where I am now, I have a soft spot for BN becasue I quietly watched and learned on here,(and through MS etc... and found my online path....(no-where near what I started out to do...but relatively successful online, with excellent sales/ visitors to my webpages....all learned HERE courtesy of BN!)
why would I follow a guy whos primary business is not my business?
I follow these guys becasue they are giving me useful, unique and quality content that can help me to build my business, not shove their opportunity down my throat every time they tweet (a sure way to be unfollowed!)
I have always loved the brutal honesty of these guys, so hey be thankful we have an opprotunity to follow them
lisa
p.s. nice to be back around!

This is very true, because all of all these so called 'Marketers'
who are using their automated useless twitter tools that post
quotes, links and Follow Fridays.
It's no wonder they would be labelled as a spam king

I have to admit - I really don't know how to use Twitter.
Is it even worth learning how??
What are the benefits of twitter vs. facebook?

It's hard to say, I still use twitter but I only follow very few people because 99%
of people use automated robots to tweet for them.
As for the people I do follow, they're great.
It's hard to find people who actually use twitter.

Re: Give Me a Break: Stop the Twitter Vanity!
For the longest of time I never "got" twitter. However I am starting to understand it and yeah I use software to follow a "whole bunch" of people with the hopes of marketing to them at some point. Your subject is interesting perhaps one should be focused on creating a relationship with people other than using twitter as a "friend dump". I do plan on paying more attention to twitter (I am on face book most of the time) and create a relationship with some of these people who are following me. What do you think about the possibility of face book acquiring twitter?

Re: Give Me a Break: Stop the Twitter Vanity!
Biggest Twitter Tip that will change your entire social media endeavour...
Introduce yourself
When someone follows you, give a big thanks for
the follow and ask them a question about them.
When you follow someone, let them know you are following
them because you thought there tweets were interesting.
Don't just add friends and follow people aimlessly.
This does nothing
P.S. You don't have to follow someone just because they follow you.
Most people spam the heck out of twitter by using software to post
links and quotes all day long, they also use it when someone types in
a keyword like 'MLM'.... BANG! You just got 50 new spamming followers.
Why would you want to follow someone like that?
