If you have a Mac, just use Quicktime.
If you have a PC, I know a lot of people use Camtasia, but I've never used it, and I know it's pricey if you're just starting out, so I don't know...

On a PC, CamStudio is pretty good - and free.

For PC I'ved use Camtasia but the program is expensive.

On Youtube search for it and you should pull up some of the tutorials.

I think Mac has some built in free software.

For the Mac I would go with Screen flow or techsmith has a mac version of camtasia.

For the pc you can use camtasia.

There is a free resource you can use cam studio http://camstudio.org/

Another free option is Jing. http://www.techsmith.com/jing/free/

Jing Project is good but if you want a more advanced screen capture
software go with Camtasia. It is like $300 dollars...if you are doing
alot of video marketing then its more than worth it.

Thank you for this question and wonderful answers! Yesterday, I just made a note to myself to search for screen capture software. I am attending a seminar next week and want to be able to save it to review after. I was afraid I'd have to spend my time taking notes as fast as possible than actually learning!
