I want to share a personal story with everyone on Better Networker and give you some insight as to where I come from and what I did in my previous life. I used to be a “Used Car Salesman” (don't hold it against me) and one day this very unique gentleman walked on our car lot carrying a brown paper bag. Everyone just looked at him, some laughed and some walked away so the manager wouldn't make them wait on him. He looked very unkempt and everyone said he was a zoo-bag (car salesman lingo) and was a waste of time. I was new so I waited on him, spent some time, was nice to him, discovered some common ground and guess what…the bag was full of money. He bought a car; I made a big commission and learned a huge lesson that day.
“Do Not Pre-Judge or Pre-Qualify Anyone or Anything Until You Get All The Facts”
The point I am making is we should never pre-judge or try and pre-qualify someone until we spend some time with them and find out what they are really looking or what they are trying to accomplish in their life. I have seen people that can just look at someone and make a decision or assumption as to what they want, how much money they have, their weaknesses and whether or not they will be able to make it in the network marketing arena. Some people might wish they had this capability but if you are a smart entrepreneur then you will want nothing to do with this kind of mentality. I would like to know everyone's thoughts and observations so hopefully we can keep some true entrepreneurs from doing this, because believe me...it is a huge mistake.

Hi Don..
Appreciate your post..This is a controversial topic in the Industry and I agree pre-judging can be detrimental not only to your business success but also for the future of your prospect..And this is a common tendency that we all are prone to get into..
For me , the greatest thing I look for in a prospect is the RIGHT ATTITUDE!..Even if the person has no experience in the industry , has little education etc , attitude is the key I think. You can make it out within a few minutes of the conversation ..If the prospect is determined to do whatever it takes to reach their goals and also open to listen and learn , then I dont really care where they come , how they look , what are their weaknesses etc..
It is important , however , to analyze whether the business is a good fit for him/her and whether his/her goals in life will be fulfilled with the opportunity. I am always looking for a long term association rather than someone signing up and leaving after one month..

I agree that the right attitude is key Adil because with this trait you can overcome a lot of the other things with prospects. When someone has the real desire and drive to start and work a business, do whatever it takes and not give up then they already have a better start than most people. Everything can be laid out on a silver platter for a prospect but if their attitude stinks then they will always have issues until that changes.

I like that! I liked your story, Don, and I liked the responses. We too look for people with the right attitude. People who may be "broke", but not "broke minded" if they have the right attitude and drive, and will do whatever it takes to get out of their situation.
I'm always reminded of Dani Johnson's story, as well as many other similar success stories of people who may not have started out successful who may have went from rags to riches, etc.

That was a good story, Don.
I've learned never to dress up to go buying a car, any more. Everybody wants to sell you something you probably don't need in a vehicle.
I borrowed a friend's car one day and went to a car dealership. I noticed how every salesman walked away or became busy. The top salesman came up and sold me a better car than I had looked at.
I tried it again in the mall. All the sales people looked at me and directed me to the other end of the store. I kept walking out. One sales man called me over in another store. I bought the suit because he did not prejudge me.
You never know what is in someone's pocket. Never prejudge anyone on face value. Speak to everyone. They may not be in the market today, but they will remember you tomorrow when they are ready.

Hey Tamara & Mario!
Great answers guys...love the rags to riches and the never getting dressed up deal to go buy a new car. The key Tamara is to never give up because there will always be adversities to overcome but just keep going and don't look back. You're right Mario...never take or pre-judge anyone on face value alone and talk with everyone because you just never know my friends.

SO TRUE! You can never know who is going to be one of the next big superstars because you don't know what's going on inside of them...you should never judge a book by its cover - but many do because they can't look beyond the surface...working on a vibrational level is SO much more effective in marketing
because our attitude is EVERYTHING it comes through in every conversation...and to observe WITHOUT judging is one of the highest faculties a human being can develop.

I just wanted to say that everyone has such great input, and I agree with it all! My motto for life is always: Treat people the way you would like to be treated.

Mmmmhh..that's awesome!
I found this to be similar or maybe even more profound in my experience: "Treat everyone like they're big people"
It gives everything such a unique grip & respect when you see everyone as who they could become - it helps tremendously <3 Our expectations influence people very much
