Well if you read any of the threads here you would know that that was to get people into the conversation, the majority here do believe that cards are an important tool of their business.

Oh and the capital letters and 5 dozen laughing faces is a little over the top don't you think? Everyone has their success story and many of them involve being able to give a card, and for that matter take a card from another!

Oh be cool! It's just because I'm happy! Nothing else! I didn't laugh at anyone on this topic!

I think Ariel, needs to Understand the principles of Forums & not just engage in banal Banter...

On the subject of this thread, I had a phone call tonight, right out of the blue, from a Customer who had got one of my flyers ( dropped a few weeks ago through her door) that she thought WAS Business Card, but in fact was to do with the Social Media Packages, that my Business Provides to people asking for a quote!... SO

Business cards DO work ;)

Thanks Dave yes they do. We just have to make sure they are relevant to what we do. It often opens a door as it did for you with that phone call. Thanks for your contribution!

So we have established that business cards do indeed work and that they are a necessary tool for our business.

I read a really cool trick to try sometime. Next time you are at a business mixer and you exchange cards, don't be in a hurry to slip it somewhere, continue to hold it. when you present yours give with both hands, that shows reverence and respect and it tells others to respect it as well. Its a Japanese custom, cool huh?

Yes I believe using business cards are necessary. Sometimes when I'm talking in casual conversation with someone and I just "briefly" mention I work from home, as the conversation continues (on other topics) sometimes, they will ask me if a I have a business card. I always carry them because you never know who you're going to meet or when someone will ask. As far as the design aspect of a card, personally, I like to use the "Keep it simple stupid" method when coming up with a design for a business card. Believe it or not, simple black text on a white card with maybe a "splash of red or dark blue" on one line is very effective. I try to put a "thought provoking question or statement" on there that will lead a person to a call of action. (like a phone number or a website address.) Below are some examples.

I Don't Work For a BOSS Anymore!
Do You? Wanna Change That?
www.WorkFromHome.com

or...

I LOVE Monday Mornings!
Wanna Know Why?
Call Me and I'll Tell You!
(123) 555-3421

These of course are just examples. I'm not trying to advertise any business here.
I like to keep it short, sweet and to the point. I've found the less you say, the more
"curious" it tends to make people.

Nice Ken thanks. you are right I have found also that not getting too extravagant with your card is definitely key. But like I saw in an earlier statement doing something unexpected for you its a splash of color, that is not expected and it catches their eye.

Also call to actions are one of the key elements I have heard on this thread through out. Just putting you name in phone number is not enough, but something that makes them say "yes I want to call that guy" or yes I want to get on that website." That is so important.

The point is, be prepared with cards that really are what you are, they are an extention of you, whether they are plain white with black type, like Ken's or whether they are flashy, is that you? If it say you and what you represent, and you are feeling confident giving them to people then they work!!

Goodrum wrote:Business cards are far from dead. Its just that people are tired of the same old cheap white paper ones. I've been using frosted plastic business cards and I'm about to get some stainless steel ones.

Its cost effective actually because people will me more likely to hold onto to those type cards and not throw them out...especially the metal ones and quite frankly I don't hand out that many business cards anymore directly. I use the cheap paper ones to enclose into information folders.

Very cool looking card Melvin. I like it. It's unique and different. People will remember that.
