I thought I would pose this question here, as its probably something that we ALL face Daily....
Pitching OR Educating?
Through our Experiences both on or offline, it gives us the benefit of Hindsight & what a wonderful thing that CAN be, as I am sure you will agree. More and More people are Now turning to Social Media to earn money, but SADLY in a LOT of cases, dont Invest in themselves and THUS Market the wrong way ( this is where Magnetic Sponsoring is SO valuable )
Now amongst all the conversations that we have daily, how many times has YOUR Educational Advice to someone been Misconstrued as a PITCH. Admittedly there is a fine line between the two, but so long as you are putting your point across in an Educational Manner, based on experience, it shouldn't be construed as a Pitch. I'd be Interested to hear & get others thoughts on this subject.

Re: Pitching OR Educating!
Either will work as long as it's asked for.
Neither will work if they don't ask for it.
What would happen if you stomped on someone's foot and threw a laxative down their throat? Would they appreciate that?
Now imagine they need it, you have it, and they ASK for it.
See the difference?
Advise, or pitch, whenever you're ASKED to.
Now, to get them to ask...

What a great answer I had never thought of it in that light before, it might be a little extreme, but it gets the point over and thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.

Re: Pitching OR Educating!
It takes some time to develop a non-pitchy sort of sensibility.
I guess it just comes down to couching everything in story. If you just tell somebody to do something, that's kind of pitchy. But when you share your point in a personal story, it softens the pitchiness of what you're trying to say.
I don't know, I just try not to talk a ton about my business to people I know (just because I don't want people I know joining my business... they'd be over at my house all the time asking me to help them do everything).
So I think just developing a sensibility about not talking a ton about your business is the key. If people really want to know what you do, then they'll ask, and then you can explain it, but only because they asked you the question.

The way I look at it is if you are selling something when someone didn't ask for it, its a pitch. You are right there is a fine line, but here is what I have found. Its in the eye or shall we say ears of the one receiving. What we consider valuable may not be considered valuable to another. This is not limited only to an MLM product or service, it can apply to an affiliate product as well.
Not all of us come from exactly the same background. I for one come at things from a slightly different slant than Magnetic Sponsoring. Its good but not the only way
In the case of talking to other networkers as many of us are, its important not to ever be in a position of putting down what they are doing, even if we do not agree with it. When we are educating, it only works if they are seeing it as valuable and therefore educational.
I have found that asking their permission works well. Would you be open to some coaching? Maybe that sounds soft, but its not and it opens people rather than closing them off. Just my opinion.

I like your thoughts on the subject, Brother Kaleem.
There is a mathematical equation to that; if you push something, there is a resistance. But if you allow someone to pull, then you can give.
That means if you try to push your ideas onto someone, there seems to be a resistance to your efforts.
But if you give a thought to someone, they will come back and ask questions and want more answers. Then you can give with less resistance and effort!

That made me laugh, really good point Debi!
What we feel is only valuable if we are giving them what they specifically ask for, so much of the time we offer our "advise" when it is not wanted, asked for, or even appreciated.

Re: Pitching OR Educating!
Interesting question.
When you phrase it "pitching or educating", it spotlights the problem. Both words are something you Do To some one else. As opposed to having a conversation or discussion, which is more of a 2 way street.
Anytime you are doing most or all of the talking, you have crossed the line. The other person isn't even listening.
Just talk and share, if they are interested in following you down the path of discussing your business or coaching, etc... they will ask questions. That is your opening - but keep it a conversation. Give and take and look for clues that your audience has taken in all it wanted at that time.

Re: Pitching OR Educating!
How we get people to ask was the question?
Well we have stated that it is not good shoving our pitch down peoples throats. That is what spammers do in a metaphorical sense. However, we also know not doing anything does not help either.
What do I mean?
Well, if someone needs a mechanic but they will not tell us how do we get them to ask? We must find a way to inform people that we are mechanics so they know who to ask. We must learn to tell people what we do without giving our pitch.
For example we can tell everyone that we are mechanics but if we start telling people we can fix their car than what will it give us? First how do we know they own a car? If we go to someone and state we can fix their car for a limited flat rate and they have no car than people will think we are nuts.
Construct our pitch that is only telling people who we are and the people in need will speak up and say they need us.
