You should promote yourself first. All trends come and go but one thing that's unique is you, the individual. You don't want to be another faceless business with nothing more than a website.

People want to see the real person, someone they can communicate with, put a face to the name and someone they can look to as an example. This helps build relationships and trust with prospective clients who may look at you and see someone who at one time or another was in their position. People buy from people. A personal touch is what's needed and that will beat a flashy faceless website every time!
