Facebook Friends Getting Google Frontpage Ranking

Postby Rob Wynkoop on Sun May 15, 2011 11:46 am

It looks like Google has once again tried to do something new with its search rankings. Has anyone noticed your facebook friends' posts and blogs appearing toward the bottom of the front page of google rankings for keywords?

I guess now we'll all be scrambling to max out our friends list in order to get maximum google exposure on the front page... Not sure if I really like the unintended consequences of that.

I've never been a fan of gathering hundreds or heaven forbid thousands of so-called "friends" on facebook... I'd rather have a core of a good 50 true friends and associates that I communicate regularly with than a thousand people spamming my wall with their biz opp or lead generation system daily.

I don't think people will be working to get Facebook friends for this purpose. It would probably be more valuable to have them as people who would see your status updates, rather than seeing things on search results.

I for one am glad we get rankings but frankly want to build relationships for the purpose of longevity. How we rank will not have any baring on that.

Rob,

Great posting! I've noticed this myself and it seems to be working well with Googles new focus on social equity, hence the Google+1.

(Which by the way - I've recently made a video and blog posting showing you how to add it to your blog using Sharebar)

Personally, i think it's reason enough to make sure you are connected with as many people as you possibly can, regardless. It's the name of the game.

Your right about having thousands of "friends" on facebook. I would rather have a solid 100-200 people i can build relationships with and will be interested in my status updates and what i have to offer.

Facebook is really one of the best social networking site today in the net. I'm not sure but I know that it is the 2nd or the 3rd site that is most visited by internet users. So it is not a surprise that Facebook is very useful in marketing.

Hello,

I totally understand what your saying. Surely the main aim of Facebook is to build relationships with people. It's a difficult task when you've 3000 friends. I'm sure its not just me, but how many times have you accepted a friends request only to get a pre written message with an offer to buy something or to sign up for something great that's apparently going to change your life, and that's before you get a 'hello, how are you today?'.

Well maybe not always but i'm sure you see were i'm coming from. I agree a small pool of friends is more beneficial as far as building relationships goes. I'd much rather post and comment on relevant posts even if it's only a few times a day rather than spam the the masses. When it comes to spamming no one will thank you for it!.

You know you can have more than one facebook account! Your main account should be for your family and friends and build relationship and you had another page that is marketing your business doing what's working in today's market! Think outside the box! Then again, what box.
