10 Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting a MLM

It will take longer to grow a big business than you think.
Growing a big business is hard work and you must plan to give it at least 5 years. It may happen sooner but you should not get discouraged if it does not.
You should start looking for potential business partners on your first day.
You do not need to have been in the business for a long time or have a lot of knowledge in order to sponsor someone. If you need help your upline and other company leaders are there to support and assist you.
It is crucial to sell yourself before you sell your opportunity.
There are thousands of other distributors selling your opportunity but only one you. You are unique. In order to experience great success, you must focus on selling yourself more than you sell your opportunity.
You don’t need to know everything about your products and opportunity to build a big business. In fact, knowing too much can be your downfall. If you wait until you think you know everything to start recruiting you will have waited too long.
Some will, some won’t next! Everyone will not buy your product or join your opportunity so except this and get over rejection immediately.
No means not now. I have had many people say no and they come back a few months later and say yes. Just because someone says no, does not mean they will not be interested in the future.
Take the time to get to know and network with other network marketers.
If you don’t ask the answer is already no. It cannot hurt you to politely ask anyone you know or meet if they know anyone who may be interested in your products or if they know anyone who is looking to make extra money. You must ask in order to be successful.
You don’t need to make a lot of money for others to view you as successful. In network marketing many people have the perception that it is hard to make $500-$1,000 a month. If you can make just even this amount, you will find that many people will be impressed and view you as a success.
It’s not just about the money. Although yes, there is a lot of money in network marketing, there are also amazing, lasting and life long friendships, as well as fun and learning experiences which can be worth more than just money.

What do you wish you had known about network marketing?
Learn the real facts about what it takes to succeed with online network marketing.
Figure out what you are doing wrong and how to fix your mistakes.

I've been in network marketing for several years....but I never had "fast" results until I joined my present company 3 1/2 years ago. In no particular order, here are some things that I feel led to me being able to create a sizable income in my first month:

1. The correct formula for success is BE...DO...HAVE. In order to "have" success, you have to first "do" things that produce success. And you cannot "do" things successfully, until you are BEing a successful person. Most people have it backwards.....they think you have do "have" something before you can BE successful.

2. When people tell you that network marketing is "hard"....or lead generation is "hard"....or enrolling people is "hard".....you're talking to someone who has experienced those things as "hard". But just because that was their experience doesn't mean it has to be yours. The people who try to sell you on the "struggle" of network marketing are those who -- by virtue of the struggle -- know little about how to make it. It's best not to take those people as your advisors.

3. Your success is not your sponsor's responsibility. It's yours. Take advantage of all the resources at your fingertips....but never imagine that your success is up to anyone but you.

4. When following up with prospects, brevity is key. If it's not necessary to say...it's necessary NOT to say. The longer and more detailed your answers, the more your prospect will assume that the decision to get started is a complex one. Keep things simple.

5. People who "want prosperity" are better prospects than those who "need to survive".

6. This is not a business of convincing, persuading, closing or "overcoming objections". This is a business of sorting. If you find yourself defending your opportunity against a prospect, you're on the phone with the wrong person. Remember they answered your ad, not the other way around.

7. Don't be afraid to leverage OPM (Other People's Money) to finance your business. One of the biggest causes of failure in business (including home businesses) is under-capitalization. Find out how wealthy people use OPM to finance their operating costs so they never feel the pressure of the cost of doing business.

8. Understand there is a pipleine. I put 5-6 people in front of my business every day for 5 days before I made my first sale. But, then I made $3,000 in the next 24 hours. The person you sell to today may not be the person you first speak to today. In fact, it's usually someone you spoke to a few days, weeks or months ago. Understand this so you don't make the mistake of getting frustrated in the early days.

9. Yes, you can make money quickly. Everyone is on their own part of the path...and some people move more quickly than others. Don't feel discouraged if your results take longer than you thought....but also don't ASSUME that they will. When you've got the "inner game" and the "outer game" tuned correctly, you're never more than one phone call away from a potential payday.

10. Work more on yourself than you do on your business. Every person I know who's earning $50k per month and more is someone who's committed to their own personal development. Be that person first and you'll increase the availability of big results for your own life.

And a bonus:

11. Have fun. If you're not having fun, you're not doing it right. Do your prospecting on the cellphone at the park while playing with your kids. Take phone calls while shopping at the mall. Don't be afraid to let the voicemail take the call. Your prospects are not served by watching you pretend to be a home-version of a corporate executive. They want to see that YOU are living the lifestyle that THEY want. So, don't be afraid to let your prospect see that you're an authentic person who can make a ton of money WHILE living your life.

I hope that assists someone!

I don't think there are just ten things that I can list... but the number one tip I can give is to keep the "sell" easy.

The harder your sell, the more complex your proposal, the more difficult you make it seem, the harder your prospect will see the business as.

If you keep your proposal simple and say everything you need to say in simple and easy terms, prospects will find the business more welcoming and easier to do.

Dear BetterNetworker Friends,

There is so much to consider when starting a business and my first reaction is that many people struggle because of their mindset. You are in business/entreprenuer and not practicing a hobby. It is a challenging transition and someone who is considering Internetwork Marketing has to take the time to educate themeself.

The advice that I would pass onto someone thinking about starting in network marketing is to find a leader who has the same values as you do and educate yourself. This is where it is important to get involved with a team that provides you the opportunity to fund your business and learn to build your own business in the meantime.

Good and thought provoking information Anna.

I wish you the best of luck Dawn! :)

Tony, I agree with #11 wholeheartedly and the exciting part of social/attraction marketing is how much fun it is and can be. I tell myself everyday that I will have fun, be happy and abundant, no matter what in my business. I have had to work hard on my internal dialogue this summer.

Sincerely,
Cindy Carden
