Your First Goal In Business Should Be To Breakeven

Postby Lawrence Bergfeld on Sun Aug 21, 2011 8:40 am

When you are in business you need to get customers because if there is no customers there is no business. Furthermore you want to be in business with a company that has a breakeven bonus due to the fact that you do not want to have any financial pressure each month, meaning having to pay every single month for your products. Here is how it is done.

When you get started in business and you have very little money and your company pays you in volume. Lets say you buy 25 BP which is one product. That means you need to get two customers to get your products paid for. And then you can afford another product, then you get two more customers. That is four customers in total. Lets say you want four products then when you have eight customers your products are for free.

Kim Klaver once mentioned that for every hundred people you talk to you will get ten customers and one distributor. Here is why. People buy products every single day but not everybody wants to open up their own home based business and the biggest mistake in the industry is that people keep slamming and jamming their company down their familys throat.

Do you want to have a Happy Christmas Dinner? Then recommend your products just like you do for a good movie and a good restaurant. It is no different than recommmending a restaurant that you just opened. When you tell your family members that you just opened up a new restaurant. Those interested will of course ask when can we come.

Substitute for restaurant whatever online store you have by saying: I just opened up an online health store? Then those interested will ask what do you have.

That is a good point, Lawrence.
I did mentioned these points to my family members. The one who took my advice get healthier and lost some weight. So much the better. The ones that did not heed my offerings, one went on and had a heart attack and the others declined to check out the information. I would not sever my relationship with my family because they did nor did not wish to join me to help them get healthier.
But they will continue to see that I have lost the weight and look younger and healthier every year.
When they see that I am not in it just for the money but there to help them to get healthier, they will come back and at least check out the information. If they see what I have seen with the information and the results of what I have been doing over the years, I hope they will join me as well in rejoicing in a healthier life!

The second part of your discussion is all about business. I know that being in business you have to make a profit somewhere sometime. That's business, period. My incentive in making money is to reach more people and help them reach their goals and help them to be successful.
Giving out samples to the serious ones who have signed up and ready to take control of their lives and get healthy is one way of using the profits made from the business.
I realize that this is how a business is operated, but the real goal is reaching more people and the profits help you to reach more people and turning their lives around to be healthier.
Sometimes working is not about the money and the profits it brings, but how you can help someone to achieve their goals and be successful.

I would never sign up or recommend any type of business that has a minimal BP value or autoship requirement in order to make money. A person should make money off every product or service they sell....no different than in a direct marketing business.

You do make money off every product that you sell. Like a pharmacy you want to have your overhead covered every month by the profits and of course make MUCH more than that. Unfortunately too many people overlook obvious things because they pay more attention to the fact that they can work at home whenever they want and mix too often family life and business life which is a big mistake.

But more important convert them so sellers, of course
it is wrong when people try to force them family members
and try to prove them something - the family members
can be not targeted at all, why they should?

Old fashion networkers still think that good family
relationship means good business partners in network marketing.

That is not targeted relationship you have - doing like this way
they start losing them friends and them friends starts avoid them, because
he keep on pushing the business to them.

Only happy customer can become a seller for your business. Happy customer
is people who get him problem fix by you, your support and your products
or service. Mainly that is the combination of: your ability to communicate and
your company's products.

The person always will recommend you if he meet people with same problem
as he has, because he want to help him. This is how he bring another customer
for you for free!

Don't forget your best customers will be your distributors, the required auto-purchase should be affordable and full of value. If you are your best customer and you shop at your own store, you will be in full integrity when you represent your products to new customers. So be your best customer first, and then it will be easy to get others using your products.

Lawrence,

you know what cracks me up? it's how everyone focuses on the REVENUE they make but everyone forgets to seal the floor....their expenses.

profit is an equation of balancing expenses against revenue. the only way to keep track of how much your expenses REALLY are is to keep a simple balance sheet showing every cent spent on your business and every cent that comes back in revenue.

for most people, it's a great big shock how much waste is going on! try it...

Lawrence,

I don't agree with your thought process on this one. The problem with thinking about "breaking even" is that it sounds like a good idea. And by all means, it's a goal for it's a terrible mind set.

REASON: It programs yourself to aim for only breaking even.

Another note, is what Jim said...

Here's some advice from an industry veteran...

Aim for the highest level, the highest income goal while cutting down your expenses and keeping track.

P.S. Another tip of faulty mindset...

When you get started in business and you have very little money

You must change this thought process. My suggestion is to stop talking to friends and family about business advice. Instead, pick up a few books. A couple to read would be Outliers - Malcome Galdwell and Speed Wealth - T.Harv Eker

Keep rocking, this is jsut a mindset thing... :D

.

I'd have to disagree on this one Lawrence...

One of the companies I started a few years ago was in a very competitive marketplace.
We had $10,000, no jobs, full blown startup mode and we had to turn a profit as quickly as possible.

We did not focus on breaking even.
Breaking even would have meant no one ate or paid their bills.

We looked at the bottom line, trimmed the fat in every possible way and streamlined every expense down to the bare minimum to be operational. We invested in PPC (Adwords and private networks) and worked our phones our phones relentlessly to make sales. We went in with the mindset that we were closing EVERY "lead" we talked with - if they were buying, they were buying from us.

It worked...
We were lean, mean and hungry and we tore the competition apart.
A year later we were a million dollar+ company and the #3 vendor in that space.

Aim high, reach for the stars, set lofty goals...
and back it all up by tangible, incremental strategic action plans that get you there step by step.
Then work your ass off to make it so.
