Me.
Most mornings I wake up and I feel pretty good.....and then I switch the computer on....
......and I read things like this.....
http://jobs.aol.com/articles/2011/10/03 ... 1%7C101065
Every day there is something new negative online....everyday I look at the share market and it depress's me and yet the irony is that I do know a few people who are working and earning very good money.
Even the founder of this site is constantly talking about the road to total ruin (which of course he has the answer too if you give him some money). There seems to be a bit of a catch 22 there....money is going to be worthless but he wants ours anyway?
I know that it is easy to say "well if you don't like reading negative stuff then don't read it" but that is easier said than done. This can really depepress people when it is constanty being hammered into their (our) brains....
This does play a very important role in the the fact that the people that we get in contact with online are also reading the same gloom and doom garbage that we are reading....it's hardly helpful is it?
I guess that having said all of that even this post could be construed as more negative rubbish, if it is then I apologise...but is the wonderful world of computers really that wonderful?
Well thats my moan over for the day, take care, total respect to you all, regards jim T.

Re: My Biggest Enemy Online Is.....
Jim,
I agree with your position about the article being negative; however, I also think it reflects the fact that most people are attracted to sensationalism in this society. While it's easy to say that the Age of Information cannot sustain this economy, it seems like Mr. Ratzenberger's perspective is hindered on an archaic ideal. Because the Age of Information consists of the abundance of informational access that otherwise would not have been present, he still can have an opinion for the masses who are complacent where they are. Our profession is not for everyone, it's just the Law of the universe, regardless of what tools are in place.
I was a fan of "Cheers" as a child, and I respect all forms of success; to generalize or judge another man's ambition b/c it doesn't fit your idea of whatever, is not only detrimental to the economy's current & future growth, but hypocritical as an actor who has already made a modest living outside of the Industrial Era workforce.
For the niche' you're involved in, stories like this only motivate those serious people even more. I'm glad Mr. Ratzenberger can voice his concern, but unless there is a platform for people like us to respectfully disagree with counterpoints, then it becomes another rant by a celebrity who wants to change the world from an authoritative position. The irony is, he was interviewed using the medium he was adamant about not being socially responsible to the majority. Interesting...
I apologize in hindsight, as I enjoy a good soapbox topic. now I'm going to have to get off before I begin sermonizing

Jim,
First - c'mere buddy (big ole bear hug)
Now. This is NOT a negative article. It says right in it that things will change...people (our country) WILL have to learn to be self-sufficient again. We didn't get in this situation overnight and we won't get out of it overnight.
Me - Look at me Jim. Look right into my green eyeballs. I worked in manufacturing many, many years.
This is what happened over the course of time - I started out making a high-quality product made from high-quality materials. Little by little, so as not to alarm the customer, the quality of the material lessened (thereby lessening the quality of the product) and the price increased.
We were told that this was critical for the company to be competitive globally. The product that I made 14 years later in no way resembled the product I started making. It made me sick to my stomach. Who benefited from it? Not me. Not the customer. Not our economy. Not the company. It was sold a year ago for piece parts. A hand few of people at the "top" made a lot of money and moved on.
Companies in America do not necessarily need to be competitive globally. They need to use resources from and improve America. Period. That's not a popular idea. Whoa! What!? Lock us out from all that Global money?!? Please. We don't even own our White House any more people.
While I'm at it, let me really stir the pot. I absolutely amazes me - and not in a good way - that this is the richest AND the poorest country in the world. When I get to the top, and I will. I intend to even things out some. My question to all the people who are already there...and are claiming to to be "servants" WHY HAVEN'T YOU? (top 10% earners in any industry in America)
Do you need 14 $100,000 cars? Do you need 6 mansions? Do you need 2 private jets? Do you need your own damned island? or do you need America to be a functioning, stable country? Just asking.

Re: My Biggest Enemy Online Is.....
Andrea you too.
Your comments are spot on...actually I was reading something about that topic earlier...about the manufacturing problem...and they say that unless something dramatic happen in very few years the whole country will pay very serious consequences.
I am pretty sure that the abuses and sins of the capitalism...are the fuel..to all that is happening right now around the world.
Be well,
Roger Aburto
P.S Let's talk about that people are rushing to buy gold and silver...but there is not enough physical metal to satisfy the demand...sooo...as we speak I can assure that right now some greedy capitalists are thinking the next big fraud...this time the Madocs and the Enrons are planning to steal using gold and silver...and I say this with all sadness...and emotional pain.

Re: My Biggest Enemy Online Is.....
Roger,
The problem here (and from I can tell everywhere else) isn't not enough resources - it's not enough decency.
If I see that my neighbor's dog has gotten out, I don't call the police, I take the dog to her. If I notice her kid's clothes are looking a little small on them, I give her my son's that he has outgrown. It's not that hard.
Now - would I give a homeless person cash? No. But I have countless times and will again give food and clothing directly to people I have seen on the street, and money to shelters. One man I saw kicking his girlfriend (who was lying on the ground trying to protect herself from further damage) in the parking lot at a club will *never* forget me.
Pointing up to Jim's original post, the well-established marketers here and elsewhere who offer their services for a price I guess feel it's necessary - maybe they DO need a whole island (?) I don't. And I laugh, yes I do - right out loud at the "blood, sweat, and tears" speech. Want to see my scars where REAL blood was spilled?

Re: My Biggest Enemy Online Is.....
I agree with you, Jim.
The biggest enemy online is Me!
We are bombarded with so much information that it does seems overwhelming to say the least.
The best way to hide something is to put it in front of you. Of course, you also get everything else that you may need to know. If you look at the whole pile of information, it looks depressing and then we overlook the obvious. We miss what we are looking for.
When we were looking for a house, we found houses way over our budget, very large, but because of the economy, they were all within our range. We had to scrap all the information and just stick with what we were originally looking for. And we found it close to every where we wanted.
You may have to go back and prioritize all your information. Set what is most important, then what can hold until later, and throw away what is not needed.
If you are going to start your day off right, get in the mood from a good night's sleep and eat a good breakfast! Stay well!

Hi Jim,
You gotta be careful. Just like you need to take care about what you eat if you want to be healthy, you need to be even more careful about what your mind consumes. There is alot of doom and gloom out there. It takes displine but you need to stop consuming it.
The computer is great. It makes careful selection of news possible. Simply put the RSS feeds of the stuff you want to read into Google reader (or some such) and then consume the news you want to read. Edit out those who just like to play on people's fears. You can make money by playing on fears - but it won't improve your life.
Roger - thanks for that youtube video. That guy is amazing. It was great to Jerry Lewis again too.

Re: My Biggest Enemy Online Is.....
I am not going to take time to read that article. Sure there is negative we can find it if we are looking. We can get the news on the internet or on the tv or radio. And negative sells. Our only real enemy is what is between our ears, what we think. We must feed our minds with the positive because we will always be assaulted with negative, and we also have choice whether we want to entertain the negative and fail, or whether we want to entertain the positive take action, and just not have any time for negative news!
