For me, I couldn't get past the thought that I had no business being in IM when there are so many "gurus" out there.

Then when I got past that mode of thinking, I struggled with "getting started" Period. I came waiting for some major "go ahead" to happen that might kickstart my efforts.

And thirdly, I suffered from analysis paralysis, always thinking I needed to learn more, buy more, but never DO MORE! Once I started building relations and networking with other marketers and sharing strategies and stories, I became more confident. They encouraged me to simply TAKE ACTION. Start somewhere and keep improving. That was huge for me and I never looked back, especially once I developed my WHY. My WHY will take me to the ends of the earth and back ~ the future, my future, is online. This is where I belong!

Hi Lynda, Mario, Terri and Helen,
Thanks for helping me with this.
It's a lot bigger challenge for people than I first anticipated as not many at the top achievers seem to talk about the real, raw fears they had at first and how they overcame them to go on and thrive in their fields of choice.

Just in-case you aren't aware of the 7 basic fears, here they are again from Nap Hills' Success Journal...
    Fear of Poverty
    Fear of Criticism
    Fear of Ill-health
Fear of the Loss of Love
    Fear of Old Age
    Fear of Loss of Liberty
    Fear of Death...

He says everyone suffers from any one of them at various stages in their growth and some experience them all at once!

So, knowing those fears, I guess would make it easier to define and conquer the offending fear.

Actually, it's interesting to note, we generate more fears and discomfort when we are off track, off course to our inner self. It's a real shock when you discover how the brain is made up and how it responds to logic in the outer one of 3 "rings" of processing filters, all stuff goes through to get us to take action.

Try this exercise to test it...
Find your true feelings on a subject, not your logic feelings, then have someone try and convince you why you should "do something against" your inner feelings.
Make sure it is a perfect sales pitch, so to speak, then assess the information given you.
Your outer logical brain filter will say "Hey, that's really cool, do that" and you move forwards on that, but you have a gnawing feeling inside that something is amiss, you know not what, as it all seems to make logical sense!
Then the regrets, excuses, fears etc set in!

Your "inner knower"(what I call it) doesn't want that thing for you at this particular time, but your logical brain is playing a ping-pong match with your inner parts and confusion sets in as you are convinced it is a really good and beneficial addition to your learning/tools/home/etc, right now!
You know the rest of the story from here...Despair, depression, being ineffective, unproductive, procrastinating and so on.

That's why having a really clear, from the inside, picture of your reason WHY you are doing whatever it is you are doing, is so vital to yourself, your family the country and more. I believe that's why sickness and dis-ease are rampant. Too many people are buying into the sales pitches bombarding them every hour and not taking time to understand their inner guidance system!(just my belief here)

I just learned that really clearly yesterday, when something happened that made me strongly aware of this process and I just had to share that with you as a side issue to my main question I posed in this thread the other day!
A serendipitous journey with me...sorry "bout that! :o

Kindest
Mary...

I think we all get a bit of a shock when we come online first, as most have never been in business, let alone in sales or marketing.
Then we have thrust upon us, copy writing, grammar, dialogue, product knowledge, forums, dashboards, computer, website and internet mastery, to name but a few of the new skills to learn.

Was wondering how long it takes most people to get their lists (data bases) started, once they make up their minds to commit to an online business.
Then the next thing was, how long after that did it take to earn their first dollar, then sustainable income?

Just doing a survey.
Will get a poll going later when I work out how to word the poll!
Always learning :geek:
Kindest,
Mary

Mary, you have a question there that a lot of people struggle with: how long to build a list and how long to make a buck. What we need to teach people right off is to market to that list right from day one. Create the understanding immediately that you are in business and this is what you sell. That training is sadly lacking with most online marketers.

You are so correct Joyce!

It is something that occurs down the track a bit for most, as they don't feel right about gathering a list of people when they themselves are not clear in their own direction.

I have just had internet woes for the last 30 mins and find Google and FBk melted at the news of Steve Job's death!
May he rest in peace. Bless him. I'm really sad, as it seemed so quick. He persisted to the end. What a man, what a brain, what a heart.

A point of interest here...
He told about his calligraphy course he did ILO of a real uni course and how that love of font and style, with gaps between various combinations of letters flowed and looked "artistically subtle in a way that science could not explain" and lo...Apple was born. RIP Steve Jobs...

Mary, for me it was a fear of losing clients in my "other" business due to them finding out I was building a network marketing business.

As it turns out, this fear was totally unfounded, and my old client list turned out to be one of my best resources for prospecting.
