I don't use an article directory. I posted to my blog which automatically pings search engines. I have been seriously working on my blog for the past two months, implementing the training I am going through. This was the first article I got an awesome ranking with.

I don't mind sharing at all. The beginning point is market research and following that keyword and competition research. You can't just put up a blog and write random article and expect to rank for any keyword. I spend a good few hours doing market and keyword research. It's a lot easier to rank for low competition keywords that are producing a decent amount of traffic.

First of all I use Wordpress for my website which has some great plugins to help with SEO.
Once I have posted an article which has been optimised, I also bookmark it to a social bookmarking site as well as post it to Facebook, Twitter and Better Networker.
I am also constantly commenting on other peoples blogs (add value don't just post for the sake of posting) and this enable you to leave your website name as well as your latest article URL if they have the "Link Love" plugin. The more of an "authority" site their blog is the more Google likes the link.

That's it in a nutshell. I am basically just implementing the training I have done and it's working.

By the way, do you mind sharing the keyword software/service you use to find the low-competition/high search keywords? I've used Market Samurai and a variety of others - but always interested in which ones people prefer for their own research.

If you search your keyword in Google make sure you aren't logged in because your post will show up on the first page. Log out and get the true results.
