Sales is hard

Postby Chris Brown on Thu Apr 26, 2012 10:55 am

I hear people say they don’t like sales or say that sales is hard. Want to know what is hard? Selfesh selling!
If you look at the other persons personal interest then sales and marketing is very easy.

Money is what makes this hard. Chances are you have had a normal conversation with another person you did not know. You perhaps asked them about their family, job, ect...

But know we are trying to make money from them we think we have to act different.

Be truly interested in the other person see how you can help that person and add value to their life.

When people call me to recruit me into their MLM they call me to see what they can get out of me. Build a relationship and maybe in the future we can work together.

I learned the from Chet Holmes who works with Tony Robins and Gary Vaynerchuk of the Thank You Enconomy, and Wine Library he used it to take his family $4 Million wine business to a $67 Million wine business.

I agree with you Chris. Sales is simply a matter of listening, asking questions and listening again. Then IF you have a solution that will solve their problem, offer it !

Super fun too !

I've never met a salesperson who when trying to solve My Problem wasn't trying to make a sale.

I'm not a problem solver because I'm not a sales person. Can be both if need be but it's really not needed in Network marketing and selling isn't my thing (and it doesn't have to be). All you have to do is invite people to look at what you have to offer. Gets rid of all the sales nonsense. I simply invite people to look at what I have. It's up to them after that.

I used to sell some stuff before and one way to effectively make sales is to prove your product actually works. How can you do this? I never sell products that I do not use myself. I guess this is important if you want to score sales with the people that you get to meet online or offline. It is essential that they have evidence on how effective or necessary your product can be. You may utilize all the sales strategies that you learned from many training, resource persons and even from school. However, all of these strategies may not allow you to generate sales when you are not able to convince your potential client that your product is actually worth every penny he will be spending for it.

I agree. Most sales people, no matter what they are selling, tend to be very selfish and are more concerned about how they can profit off of you rather than being of service to you. I think if more sales people focused on customer service, they would be a lot more successful.

Look at what Zappos has done with customer services because customer service they turned a shoe company into a billion dollar a year company.

Disney parks are another great example of this in MLM we call our people our team in traditional business we call them customers at Disney they call them guests. How do you treat a guest. If more people treated their customers / leads as guests people would be more successful.

You are right. Sales is hard. I try not to do it. We are taught that we eventually have to be salesmen, to market our products.
I do not believe that you have to make a dollar every time you meet someone. Making friends is still important without trying to sell something all the time.
I do get out and meet people and find out what they are doing and what they want.
People enjoy their lives no matter what the economy dictates. Any problems they take it to their doctor to solve. You can't sell a new car to someone who already has a car and paid for. Unless they were in the market for one.
Convincing someone who is not in the market for anything you are selling is another story. Provide alternatives and show them the difference. They would sell themselves.

The first step is establishing the needs and the desires of your client. Now, based on what he has said he needs or wants you may present. Sales can be very difficult if you are not 100% sold on the product or service you are representing. Your conviction or lack there of will carry through to your prospective client. Be sure you're presenting the correct solution.

The reality is that most sales people have not even tried the product that they are selling. They simply rehearse their sales pitch and flog their product to anybody who cares to listen. This is a short term strategy.

I believe that listening to what people want and offering it to them, if you can, will get you long term results....which is what we should be aiming for
