I wrote these rules many years ago but I feel that they still hold some decent weight and I thought I'd share them with you:
Rule 1: There's no such thing as "sharing" in the network marketing. Its a business and your job is to market memberships and services or recruit people for monatary gain.
Rule 2: Friends and family are grateful for free information but distrustful over renumerated information.
Rule 3: Nobody gives a warm wet sh@# about your business unless they specifically asked you for it.
Rule 4: Using the "3 foot rule" can be hazardous to your confidence.
Rule 5: The whole world doesn't want to work for you, recruit people who actually want to run their own business
Rule 6: If you recruit the person, you are essentially his mother and/or father in the business. So teach him how to walk and talk.
Rule 7: What you put in your business is what you get out. If you do no work then you get no money
Rule 8: Running your business without business cards and sales tools is like a McDonalds that ran out of french fries and hamburgers.
Rule 9: Your marketing plan is more important than your product.
Rule 10: It takes 100 no's to get a yes. Take your no's with dignity and move on.

Excellent list ... I agree with most of them.
My favorite is rule number 6!
Rule 6: If you recruit the person, you are essentially his mother and/or father in the business. So teach him how to walk and talk.
This so often gets lost in the world of online marketing. Make sure that capture pages and auto responders don't completely replace phone calls, Skype chats and if they are close enough sharing a nice cup of coffee. (Well ... everyone can have their own cups of course!)

I can definitely see your argument on this one but I believe having an amazing unique product is just as important (even more so but I'll settle for a tie, Lol) as having a great marketing plan.

Business cards are give people all of your information in a flash without having to worry about them remembering it or writing it down on a crumpled piece of paper. Its also a great showpiece as well if you get the right type and nowadays, there are plastic and metal ones available. When I put out a business card from my metal holder in front of people, it gives them a sense that I am the man and that I'm roaming on this planet doing big things

Yes, business cards definitely give one a presence.
I think they are especially effective if they have an offer on them. Something that would get an interested party calling you even if they found it in the street. Something like: Call to get 20% off your next car wash.....
I still prefer not to have a business card. I'd rather say, I'll call you with my contact info. Of course, you cannot be apologetic or convey inadequacy about not having a business card. That way I am sure that the conversation will continue - since I am calling and not waiting for them to call. I have found it much more effective.
FYI: the video doesn't link. I'd love to watch it if you can get it some other way.

The video is disabled from embedding but you can click on it to go directly to Youtube....
For me, business cards are a great way to make a final impression and nowadays cards can have QR bar codes on them so people can scan your information into the phone itself and visit your website on top of that. What better way to give people something that they can simply scan and instantly direct them to your website and at a very cheap price??? I can get 500 QR bar code business cards from Vistaprint for 19 bucks so its a nice investment for your business.
Business cards give people your information but it also gives your prospect a professional outlook of you. But to each is own on whether to use it or not. I built my business on business cards so I'll continue to use them

This is so true because they signed up to learn not to buy something. Basically your his/her parent... Im too young to be a parent haha

True. Products are just products. People buy products then what ? You should have a sales funnel. First market an inexpensive retail product then as time goes by market them your Main opportunity (Highest retailed product) DO THIS ONLY if you have built relationships and trust with them
