A quick story

When I first got started in network marketing I was in a group that advocated paid-leads,(and very expensive ones at that). The only way to talk to them was this really awful script which was designed to move them quickly to the sale.

There were no places where we asked questions rather it was all of what you said pushy and it didn't work for anyone except for the most hard-shelled salesman.

In fact it trained that if they did interrupt with a question we would say "That will be covered in the presentation" "that will be covered in the training" Of course they were frustrated and so was I.

I did it for a while and it taught me that I had to find a way to really get into that person's head, and of course then I found all of the other things like Tim Sales, and the list goes on and on.

Point being even when they hand you a script, if it does not teach to get into your prospect, what they want, what their problems are that you need to help them solve, then its game over.

That's great insight Lynda...
When I was 17 I worked as a telemarketer in several companies.
From phone book ads to custom golf clubs.

You could tell which operation had their stuff together just in the scripts they used.
It also spoke a lot about the culture of the company.

The yellow pages were slimy, at least in the office I was in.
They didnt care about the customer, it was all about the money, get the money, get the sale, hard close constantly. I quit within a week. I literally felt dirty working in an environment like that.

In contrast the golf clubs, while seemingly harder to close and required more skill, we're talking a $500-$1200 blind purchase over the phone (cold call) it was way more fun. The whole concept was to connect with the customer. In that office, if you werent on the phone for at least 30 minutes you were doing it wrong. It was all about getting to know the client, share their love of the game (which I did and I think that helps tremendously). The process that follows is a natural progression of talking about clubs, how can we improve your game, help you enjoy your time on the course more instead of cussing your brains out every time you shank a ball into the weeds.

Eventually the scrip was replaced with simple conversation.
The script, in the beginning, helped create a frame to work from moving forward.
Figuratively speaking, without the proper script (a model, a blueprint) to begin with, it can be a tough road moving forward. When you start the journey on the right foot it seems to help things run a little more smoothly.

P.S. I can't believe some of the stuff I use to say lol. Just went back and re-read some of my old posts. I apologize to anyone I offended on here about a year and a half ago! hah

Don't apologize Landan. We all went through (or are still going through) a learning curve. I see people on here all the time that are making the same mistakes I made and I know they are going to come out the other end if they spend enough time figuring out what they are doing wrong.

You can pick out the BSers pretty quick and you are one of the ones who doesn't come across that way. That's hugely in your favour.

Haha yeah I was in that stage that I think a lot of people go into, which is when you hear someone say something very small (like Mike D. for example) and then you believe that as the truth without ever actually testing it for yourself.

Like in Magnetic Sponsoring it talks about how people don't necassarily want the product (drill), they want the result (hole). And people (like me) take that one little line and turn it into our entire core beliefs that think the product doesn't matter at all, it's just the biz opp. I don't think that's even what he meant when he said that, but I don't think I'm the only one that has ever taken it that way.

About 2 years later, when I actually started getting real sales online, I realized that the product is crucially important. And then after a couple of months of selling bad products, when you don't see your residuals because your product sucks, so everyone stops the autoship, you want to find the BEST product haha.

And then you start to realize that when you actually sell your biz opp, instead of only pitching affiliate products, people will actually join you (crazy right).

I guess it's all part of the learning process, i just wish my process wouldn't have lasted 2 and a half years!

But the pain of my struggles, helps me sell now, so it all works out for the better : ).

Landan, it took some of us a lot longer than 2 1/2 years !

You had help. Others had picked those tiny phrases, turning them into a whole philosophy and were teaching it to anyone and everyone who would listen.

You have to question what you're taught, whether it's going to get you where you want to go and generally you have to use the brain power God gave you.

And network marketing is pretty darn simple: move product - make money.

That's sounds about right Mario, and I would probably have said about the same thing. Maybe Torrie Battle (trainer) can help everybody out here in this video, and clarify some things for people visiting this forum. ;) Properly getting started is "KEY" for everybody entering a home based Network Marketing Business. http://www.betternetworker.com/videos/view/marketing/getting-started-properly-your-business

Anyway, hope this helps...HF

What would the world do with another "me" around to do twice the damage and mistakes and etc...
But we can learn from others to be our own selves and be unique!
