Are you a entrepreneur or a business owner?
Most of you are business owners according to Dan Kennedy. He said if you have a hard time explaining what you do you are probably a entrepreneur owner.
A network marketer is a business owners where a entrepreneur would be someone who may be a network marketer but they would also earn income from Youtube, Google adsence, affiliate programs, they may sell their educational programs, they may also set up marketing campaigns for company, hold seminars, do personal 1-on-1 and group coaching for a fee, they would also set up businesses in multiple industries.
This is what Richard Branson does he is a entrepreneur he run over 400 companies.

I hate to say this and it doesn't happen very often but Dan's wrong.
Entrepreneur = one who organizes, manages and assumes the risks of a business or entreprise.
Business owner - a man/woman engage in a commercial or industrial enterprise
Technically they are the same although in my experience, online, when someone tells me they are a business owner my antenna goes up - red flag ! It usually means they have their fingers in lots of affiliate programs and can't wait to sell me one or more of them.
On the other hand when someone tells me they are a network marketer with xyz company, that tells me their focus is on their MLM and the affiliate components or tools are secondary and only there to assist them to market their business.
One is out to get me on their list so they can sell me more or upsell me.
The other is a fellow business owner/entrepreneur I can network with.
Offline I would treat them no different. Online is a different ballgame until people recognize they are in business and all the free gimmicks and offers that no offline business owner would offer is nothing short of bribery to get their names.

Joyce,
I have to go with Chris on this one. We obviously have different experiences with the use of those terms.
In my opinion,
A business owner is primarily interested in his or her own business. Making that work. THey don't generally have the time or inclination to branch out from that. Of course, in network marketing they may do abit of affiliate marketing as well. But that would not be the focus.
An Entrepreneur is looks at the world as a a business opportunity. She is willing to make money in a wide variety of avenues. So she may be a business owner, or more likely a multiple business owner, as well as engage in other money making ventures.
To me, this means the entrepreneur is less likely to be an affilate marketer.
You can make so much more money by marketing your own products instead of someone else's.

Basic (Common) Forms of Ownership

I dont agree that one or the other is tied to any particular business model, i.e. affiliate income, network marketing, retail, direct sales, etc. How revenue is generated is not a defining characteristic of either title. The basis is simple - you're in business.
By definition "business owner" and "entrepreneur" are in fact one in the same.
What has happened is that society and the the network marketing crowd in particular always have a way with transforming definitions for one reason or another. In this industry definitions are often transformed into some mystical version that makes for better headlines, copy and catch phrases.
But the simple truth is we're all entrepreneurs and business owners.
You own your business. Whether you act like you do or not is another matter.
You have embarked on the entrepreneurial journey of creating your own success.
Now the real question is ... What are you going to do about it?

An entrepreneur (i/ˌɒntrəprəˈnɜr/) is an owner or manager of a business enterprise who makes money through risk and/or initiative. Entrepreneur in English is a term applied to a person who is willing to help launch a new venture or enterprise and accept full responsibility for the outcome. Jean-Baptiste Say, a French economist, is believed to have coined the word "entrepreneur" in the 19th century - he defined an entrepreneur as "one who undertakes an enterprise, especially a contractor, acting as intermediatory between capital and labour".
Basic (Common) Forms of Ownership

Sole proprietorship: A sole proprietorship is a business owned by one person for-profit. The owner may operate the business alone or may employ others. The owner of the business has unlimited liability for the debts incurred by the business.
Partnership: A partnership is a business owned by two or more people. In most forms of partnerships, each partner has unlimited liability for the debts incurred by the business. The three typical classifications of for-profit partnerships are general partnerships, limited partnerships, and limited liability partnerships.
Corporation: A corporation is a limited liability business that has a separate legal personality from its members. Corporations can be either government-owned or privately-owned, and corporations can organize either for-profit or not-for-profit. A privately-owned, for-profit corporation is owned by shareholders who elect a board of directors to direct the corporation and hire its managerial staff. A privately-owned, for-profit corporation can be either privately held or publicly held.
Cooperative: Often referred to as a "co-op", a cooperative is a limited liability business that can organize for-profit or not-for-profit. A cooperative differs from a for-profit corporation in that it has members, as opposed to shareholders, who share decision-making authority. Cooperatives are typically classified as either consumer cooperatives or worker cooperatives. Cooperatives are fundamental to the ideology of economic democracy.

Richard,
I agree that neither is tied to a particular business model.
I think there is a difference between the two terms though. Albeit a subtle one.
Entrepreneurs are not necessarily business owners. In their entreprises and businesses they take more initiative and risk than your typical business owner. They look at all potential avenues to reach their goals.
The biggest difference is that for an entrepreneur reaching his or her own goals is the prime motivation, not the success of a particular business. Entrepreneur's don't attach or over-identify with the business or entreprise they are working on. Those items are just the means to an end.
To really crush it in network marketing it helps to be an entrepreneur as well as a business owner.
You can still do well as a business owner - but most likely not as well. Business owners have a tendency to over-identify with the success or failure of a business venture. Entrepreneurs do not.
Regardless of the semantics of the question, as you put it, it would be best for all of us to engage in a
"entrepreneurial journey of creating your own success."
