I’m going to share with you 10 ways to write “can’t ignore” blog posts headlines.
I know many people blog nowadays, and have really great content to share. But the HEADLINE is the most important thing. No great headline= no readers. While going through MLM Traffic Formula 2.0, I learned about writing great headlines that will have people wanting to read your post. So here it goes:
1. Shock Effect- A shock effect headline will have your readers, well..SHOCKED!! So they’ll instantly want to read what you have to say with such headline. For example: “Why I spit on my sales letters”….or “Why I fired my boss!“. Shocking headlines are a great way to get readers.
2. Curiosity- When was the last time you didn’t read something that you were curious about? Make your headline leaving your readers curious about what you have to say. Example: “Marketing gurus I never buy from” or “2011 Prediction: Boom or gloom?”
3. Straight benefit- Best way to get people to read is to solve their problems. Give them a reason why they should read your posts. If theres a benefit to it, they’ll most likely read. Example: “Closing prospects without even trying”…..or “The secret to getting unlimited prospects“…or even “10 ways to monetize facebook“.
4. Bizarre- People like to be entertained. Don’t be boring. Be a little bizarre. Example: “Curse of the prospecting monsters“..or “Bigfoot’s big blogging tips”
5. Play of popular quotes- Examples: “Lazy network marketers have skinny kids“…or..”Say it, don’t spray it..on youtube”
6. Contrast- Examples: “Eye doctor blinded by awful prospecting”
7. Play on book and movie titles- Examples: “Mrs. Doubtfire did network marketing”
8. TV and movie characters- Examples: “Batman’s blogging secrets”
9. Challenge existing dogma- Examples: ”Why blogging doesn’t work“…or “The case against copywriting”
10. Mix and match everything- Get creative, you can mix and match. Examples: “McCain’s best-kept marketing secret“…or “Weird facebook secret spikes traffic”
Just remember: Your HEADLINE is the most important part of your post. Be creative, and ask yourself “Would I click on that post?”. But also make sure your post is relevant to the headline. Don’t just write something catchy and not deliver.

Excellent tips ... I agree with you 100 percent on the importance of a well thought out Title or Headline for your blog articles.

These are excellent tips. I am trying to get better at copywriting myself. I am having to learn to think outside the box when it comes to the title. I am learning that its best to do a certain amount of research, which included keyword research.

Absolutely agree with those 10 steps. I'll definitely keep these in my back pocket handy. I've definitely been experimenting with some semi-controversial headlines myself in my articles and blog posts. Attention-grabbing headlines are the start.
Next is of course, the article preview. The article preview is like the expanded version of the headline and what the reader will usually look at next. So the first paragraph definitely has to almost fall in line with the headline too.

The best advice I received in writing headlines came from Andrew J. Cass. He said make sure you direct your headline to your specific target audience.
For example: "Realtors - Wouldn't you rather be on the beach on Saturday instead of working?"
