I do use business cards when I have them.
Recently, I ran out of cards and brochures. Everybody I associate with knew me so I didn't bring any with me.
I met someone new in the group. We started talking and the subject got around to what I did in business.
I suggested for him to go to my facebook page and look up my website.
A person would remember a simple word or website to go to rather than have a business card.
I told him about my products and how it works for me. And he could readily see the results for himself.
I could only refer him to go to my website or remember to go to facebook and look me up.
Doing it this way was easier to remember and just go to the facebook and view everything on the subject.
He can then decide to continue further or contact me for more questions.
It was very simple and easy to do without handling a lot of business cards around.

Mario can understand about the digital identity of a person or business. Facebook is key element to promote and advertise our business but problem is when you need to communicate or visited some exhibition or physically to your targeted customers then you need to used plastic business cards or some pocket folders printing products to show off your company information and contacts detail because so many organization still away from Facebook and Social Media activities so never ignored this element.

I believe a simple one is helpful. I haven't exactly been impressed with a plain black and white. It need to reflect who you are and what you do.

I myself have one that has the same logo and colors as my website, and it gives contact info. They can go to website just like a capture, you are looking to get them there.

Other thing, make sure to be collecting them.. :)

Yes this is true. I started out using a computer generated business cards. After a while handling the cards they did not look professional enough. I went to have my business cards professionally made. I tried the triple business cards that demonstrated a little hand play as they unfolded in the prospect's hands. Those were fun to use and the prospect would more remember.
Business cards are definitely not dead. They are used in the most remote places.
Not having available business cards you do think of other ways to get your idea across. I usually copy a person's phone number down on my phone and text them later of many upcoming events and some reminder of what I do on the business end. They may lose your business card, but you will always have their phone number with you.

I think that they can still be a valuable tool.
Sometimes that may be all you have time to do is to hand someone a card.
I like the idea though of having a call to action on the card.

That is awesome Dave

I read another cool thing I be few have thought about:

When we get cards we are quick to put them away (cultural thing) But Japanese hold onto it. They also give the card to someone with both hands!

They also keep it and as they converse, they look at it, they are fixing your name to that card!

Really big hint, the most important thing is to take the time to build rapport and follow up. When we stick the card in our pocket right away we are missing a chance to build more with them.

What do you think that the impression is that you would make, if you hold onto the card and take it with both hands. I always get their info first before giving mine :)

Lets face it people will not remember your name 5 minutes after you leave them, leaving a card with them, and then better make sure and get theirs, and actually touch base with them after that meeting!

Lynda,

The Point you make is So true, I watch People at Networking events and Very Very Few Do, as you as have explaned, which doesn't maximise the opportunity at all & Most People don't remember your name, Unless You do as You have Pointed out.

Takes only a Few Seconds to Do, but, they could be the most important Few Seconds you get.

Business cards are not dead.I find other peoples cards are important reminders of our first contact or the special event/circumstance of our meeting. They help me build my database offline so I always find a space on the cards to write a key word or phrase to trigger memory.I give out my cards but always ask for the other parties card in exchange if available. How do you sort thousands of cards in your possession? By categories of course. This is an important reminder to make the card projection of your brand, your USP, your specialization!

I used dropcards as business cards.
I had a catchy headline "If you want to work in all your life that is YOUR business but if you want to make money that is MY business." Call me and my phone number.

The dropcard looked like real money, actually it looked so real that the printer decided to take them back and destroyed it because he thought that it is too risky. :)

I was really sad because it was really effective.
