I'm pretty late on this topic looking at the dates on the posts, but I have to agree about Market Samurai. I heard about it when I purchased Commission Blueprint, and it's been worth every penny. Using it with the feature that hooks into a paid subscription to SEO Digger may or may not be worth it (as SEO Digger isn't exactly cheap), depending what your business is. I tend to just grab the keywords I can get for free from SEO Digger and put them into Market Samurai to analyze from there, and it's helped identify a few really good ones. If you're not familiar with SEO Digger, here's a wee quote from the front page of the site - "SEOdigger is an interesting tool where you can enter your domain (or competitor’s) and find out which of your keywords rank high enough to be listed within Google’s top 20. It also compares keyword popularity with Wordtracker and Overture. Additionally, report data is CSV exportable. Site does require registration for complete use."
Good luck!

Re: Mastering keyword research. having the right tools
I am brand new to this site and still learning to navigate my way in it, but I just want to say that I really appreciate these posts/advice from those more experienced that I as it is so confusing trying to figure out what tools are effective. There is so much useless information and so many ineffective products. I hope belonging to this group will shorten the learning curve by taking advantage of the wealth of information here contributed by those more knowledgeable and experienced than I. Thanks so much for your expertise.

Remember too that your PPC should be inherently linked with your SEO. You can find your keywords in reverse by using some of the popular SEO tools out there.
I like to use seomoz.org's term extractor tool for farming keywords. You can scan an affiliate site or a competitor's site for they keywords that they are optimizing for. And most likely, if they are optimizing for those keywords, they those keywords are worth something (opt-ins, sales, etc).
I made a video showing how to use this tool and a couple of other tools. You can check it out on my profile. It's called "How To Make 500 Longtail Adwords Ads In Under An Hour"
