Marketing Merge is right. To get the greatest benefit from BN, we need to bring new people in. Following is the best way I see to do that ... and what may or may not be a problem with it.
1. You build up your profile. Write some good articles & useful blogs, or upload some useful videos or podcasts, etc. Give value to people. Help people.
2. Outside BN, on your personal blog or in articles you write for article directories, or in discussion forums, or anyplace else that you can, link to your value-based articles & blogs & podcasts & videos on the inside of BN. That way, prospects will immediately see you as a value-giver, and they will also get a very strong, value-based first impression of BN.
Which brings up my question. Don't know if this is a problem or not - it appears to be, from what I can see.
If I write a post on a blog outside BN about an article I've posted inside BN, and I link to that article, what happens to the new person who clicks & arrives? It doesn't appear to me that they get any invitation to join BN. Are they cookied, so that if they do figure out how to join, I get credit for them? If so, how long are they cookied for?
For BN to grow to its potential, we need to be able to promote & talk about & link to our BN pages outside BN, and then get credit for the resulting new sign-ups. Does the system work that way now? If not, can we make that happen?
Thanks,
Richard Dennis

Re: Bringing new people into BN
Richard, interesting question. I think as web 2.0 and other advances make the internet more interactive we may see an option where a non member may inquire about the site thanks to you and will be "tracked" in other words until they do sign up (giving you the credit).
Although that is a great idea I am pretty sure it does not work that way today. You have to pretty much directly refer them here. But that is why I try to include as much info in my blogs so that a non member can pretty much answer any inquiry they have without leaving it.
On your comment about outside BN networks, I try to link all of my social networks together (which sounds obvious but a lot folks don't do it). But my blogs on Yuwie/6dgr/Myspace/where ever are all linked through my website and various other links
