So, I just made my first video, comments?

Postby Karen Umstattd on Thu Nov 29, 2007 3:36 pm

After giving some thought to what others said about WHY videos work, I decided I had to seriously consider video marketing as another means of lead generation but had no idea what to do.

So last night, after reading the responses, I sat at my computer trying to decide what to do. I went to go look for the camera (my daughters) but couldn't find it anywhere so I thought again for a bit.

Got a lot of personal change going on right now, a story in my sons life that reminds me of the movie "The Notebook" and may some day also be made into a movie.

My son went into the Navy right out of high school and met his "family" while serving in the Navy. He has been gone for 4 years and this weekend, him and his family are moving back home, to my town, permanently.

So, after trying to figure out what to do, I ended up (after 5 tries) making a video dedicated to my son and his family (they technically aren't married yet and some day we hope he can adopt baby).

I'm proud of how this came out but also, proud of my family and want to
share them with you.

Great Job Karen!

The music was just the right touch. See, wasn't so hard, was it? I left a comment and a rating. What a great first video.

Hey Karen-

I thought that was a great video! And it was your 1st? I would love to get started on YouTube but have no idea where to start.

If you don't mind sharing, did you create that on a website or is it a software you use? Please forgive my "green"ness.

Thanks.
Nicole

Hi Nicole, I don't mind sharing, ever.

I used Windows Movie Maker to do this. I'll admit, it wasn't easy and for a long time, I was a little gun shy about learning it but what can I say, I'm the kinda person that when I'm inspired to do something, I sit at it until I do. It took me like five tries to get this done once I figured out how to use it.

I got Windows Movie Maker a long, long time ago as a free download but I can't say where, don't remember. You should be able to just google it and find it online somewhere, or maybe at www.download.com

Really, although I know I procrastinate and get frustrated sometimes, it's like anything else we've learned through life, we just have to take that leap of faith and know that "if it's meant to be", I'll learn it.

And ask questions!

Just try it.

I've been looking at other music that inspires me giving thought to trying this again someday soon.

Karen, that was so lovely it made me cry! Looking at your photo here, I can see you in little Taylor. What a great family she's been born into.

I thought it was extremely professionally done and a fabulous family memento.

Thanks for sharing!

That was a really good video. You've given me some inspiration to put together a video with my family as well as my "Why" to do this business.

It had good music, and moved me emotionally.

Only piece of constructive criticism I would have is "What is the video for"

To prospect a new person to visit your website? To share with friends? To share with only your family? A cold prospect may not stay on that long since they don't really know why you're doing the video, (but it is short, so they might stay to the end)

You might want to add to the flash, "Here's Why I Work From Home". Then move on with the video. And add a couple of more slides. "I Have All The Time I Want, To Spend With My Family". Then back to the video, and continue in that fashion.

Again, really good job with the video.

Happy Prospecting,

Well, orginally I wanted to make a video that would help my marketing efforts in some way and as this developed for me, I thought it would be tacky and take away from what it was turning into to put something about me or my business in the middle of the video, that's why I ended it with my Name url only. This was more of a stepping out and stepping up video for me, a try and see thing, and if my personality comes out in this video and is "attractive" to anyone, they will look me up OR, if anyone likes the way I set up the video, maybe they'll pass it on and someone else will find me attractive.

If this video in particular doesn't draw traffic for me, that's okay. It was good for me to do to learn that I "can" do it. And, that I don't have to sit in front of the camera either LOL
