In looking for a way to promote, I have run into safelists. I am curious if they are really useful or just create more traffic then they are worth.
Are some useful and others are not?
Does anyone have data on how to use them efficiently - so that I get some production out of them?
Should I avoid them like the plague? Jump in and go for it?
Please let me know as I do not need to start something that I am going to spend a lot of time doing and get no results - because I do it wrong (or because it was not a good idea in the first place).
Thanks for any guidance on this.

You gotta right click if you want to save it..An associate of mine
send it to me but I am not sure if I am interested..I got other
plans I am looking into right now..
I haven't rebranded but feel free to branded yourself and give it away..

P.S. It's a good read to learn regardless.

it really all comes down to what you are promoting. Remember that these safe lists are going to be a much lower quality overall of traffic than say traffic you generate from a social networking site like betternetworker.
Safe lists can be a complete and utter waste of time. Remember also that a lead is simply someone interested in making some extra money and that's it.
On the other hand I have found great success with safe lists marketing a free survey opportunity (compared to when I was pushing my $75 opportunity).
So really it all comes down to what you are marketing but I will say that safelists, list building, traffic exchanges and email blasters are not as useful as we all would like them to be...

Safelists can work great if you know how to work them. Not the most quality traffic but it does work. I get between 5-10 leads a day using safelists.
The key to safelists is to offer something that is of value ans is free.
I recommend giving something away that is marketing related and then following up with a soft sell into your offer. That is where the money is. Get the leads and then work them.
I hope that this helps you a little.

I do some safelist marketing.
The only safelist i use are the Credit Safelist
These safelist are very responsive, Even though
there clicking the link to get a credit. Everytime
i use them i get a least 35- 50 optin leads.
So you shouldn't waste your time with the free safelist.
Only use the credit base safelist.
These are some i use, there very good
Topsurfer
Planet X mail
Gotsafelist
Hope that helps

Anthony is absolutely correct.
Safelists are an inexpensive way to reach many people via email marketing. But unless there is an incentive attached to the email, the chances are slim to none that they will ever read your offer. That incentive most of the time are safelist credits.
Now that being said... you have a VERY limited time to capture the attention of the reader. Usually about 20 seconds. So your ad copy must be GREAT!...not just good, and not saying what everyone else says. "We have the greatest opportunity... call your friends before they call you... yada, yada, yada.
Is this easy... not at all. But it's well worth the work.
Now, allow me to talk out of both ends of my mouth here...
I did write an article a few months back blasting these things and still stand behind everything I said in that piece. But I was referring to standard mailers. My tune has changed only since the advent of credit mailers. In any case it may be worth a read...

Personally...
..we always gotta be a litle creative not all the time but some..
Brand that book that is loaded with the credit ones and sign up..
Give it away and maybe just maybe..you get to sign up those
that are using the normal safelists under you and guess what?..
..You guessed it..
I didn't mention those that are planning to try safelist can sure
use some guide bingo! again..
Of course, we can make a killing with people that are low in funds
and they can too!..or maybe they are lost and don't know where
to start..
Hey!..what else can I say..I personally know that everything in
this world have a good side..We are living in a world of opposites huh?
I forgot to mention that about your websites of other businesses, they
most likely follow you..
