I would just like to conduct a survey really, just to see what the consensus of opinion is.
Is the Network Marketing/MLM industry booming in this economy?
My belief is that because the economy is looking so gloomy, and people being people, that as the economy slows they will be scrambling to get into an opportunity that can make them money without much risk.
I wonder where you get that?

our volume had doubled in the last few months- partly from new product, but also because of people getting involved who never would have before. The problem is the mentality of starting business on the cheap as noted by your clever question.

Yes and we are in Australia, the crunch hasn't hit nowhere near as bad as in the states, and we are starting to see layoffs and businesses close.
And the last two months for our business has been huge.

I'm new so take whatever I say with a grain of salt, but I'm finding that people don't want to put down the initial investment necessary to join my mlm ($800). I'm not sure if this is only because of the bad economy. Could be that these are just people who don't have the vision and the dream.

Yes!! Business is BOOMING!
With the economy many or looking for a Back-Up plan or having to simply reinvent themselves and their is incredible wealth building when you can "build" residual income.
I have increased in one month what my business did the first year when I first started my direct sales business.
Our group was able to buy over 175 customers in January and we built it all off-line........no leads buying or calling because 85% of people join a business with someone they know, like and trust.
Stand with posture to share your business and be confident in what you believe in and if people are making money in the business that you are in, you can too!
I think 2009 will be an incredible year for those who have a home-based businesses.
Cheers~~Tina Gonda **This is going to be a SUPER NATURAL year**

Re: Is MLM Still Growing In A Bad Economy?
I've seen quite a bit of 'rah rah' hyped up comments about business booming, yet in the last couple of conference calls of one company I'm involved in, the team leaders were admitting they had been hammered in the past few months. Lots of defections and a great many autoships have been cancelled. The company is still on firm ground and they think the worst is over, but I wonder if that company's experience is really unique to them? I believe the recession has cut across all industries. People who joined an mlm but weren't making money yet were quite likely to jump ship as they cut out non-essential spending.
However, with that said, I think that once people get over the shell-shock stage of this recession, there will still be a shortage of available jobs and as a result we'll begin to see a large influx of new members joining our industry. But I think the companies that will do the best are the ones that can be joined for under $100. After all, no matter how motivated you are, if you're trying to live on an unemployment check it can be difficult if not impossible to invest hundreds of dollars in a new venture, leaving little or nothing for marketing costs, not to mention food, electricity, and heat.

Re: Is MLM Still Growing In A Bad Economy?
I think people are more conscious of what they spend but on the flip side people need businesses like ours more now then they every have.
Ultimately, in my opinion, the economy has nothing to do with my business unless I say it does.
You can see this proven by a lot of the results above.

Re: Is MLM Still Growing In A Bad Economy?
I think a major issue that I don't see discussed so far is that what
the bad economy is producing is thousands of people who NEED a
business rather that WANT a business.
Generally speaking, the network marketing business has been built
by people who want to be entrepreneurs and own their own business.
Now, there is an influx of people looking around who really don't
want to, but feel they are forced to. This is such a completely
different mindset that the same marketing will not work on both.
You either go for the "wants" or the "needs," and as they say,
"never the twain shall meet."

Re: Is MLM Still Growing In A Bad Economy?
I believe it is growing! I just posted a message about a big network marketing event that my company
(I work with a cluster of radio stations in West Palm Beach) is doing in South Florida where the response has been huge. We have had a ton of calls from both network marketers/MLMers along with local consumers who are interested in attending the event to see what their options are.
Since people have been layed off, had their salaries cut in half, and have been severely effected by the state of the economy, they are looking for options, they don't trust bug business now the way they DIDN'T trust network marketing a couple of years ago.
People are certainly more open to the opportunity now then they ever have been and if they can get in with a co that fits their life while learning from someone who has a vested interest in them, that is a win-win situation.
Thanks for the post and if you know anyone that is running their own network marketing/direct sales/or MLM company in FLordia, please have them call me as I would like to see if they would have some interest in attedning this event.
All the best!
