Well...at least it certainly appears that way for a lot of people.
Of course, I know it isn't hard. But..I'm surprised at how difficult people make it on themselves when it comes to making money...period.
I've done this for almost two decades, and while it wasn't always easy for me...there WAS a time when I wasn't doing so well.
Making money is EASY. I realized it a long time ago. Yet, so many many people have such a hard time figuring out a way to have money come to them easily.
Here's how you make money in MLM or Direct Sales, at least the way I see it.
First of all, there are MORE than plenty of legitimate opportunities (companies) to choose from in the marketplace. So...finding an opportunity is easy. Money is everywhere. Opportunity is everywhere. Your bright future is literally in the palm of your hand.
1. Pick a damn company and ride it! Don't keep looking around, over your shoulder, at other deals. Once you have found a company...SEIZE the opportunity. WAY too many people look around continuously to see if the grass is greener someplace else. If you ain't makin' money in your deal and other people are, the problem isn't the company, the problem is what YOU are doing or NOT doing in that company.
That brings me to number two...
2. Focus your rear end off on honing your skills. You wouldn't go into cage fight, going up against the Champion of the World, unless you had some skills. Go get some skills, wherever. I don't care. If you like my training, great. If not, fine. But...get yourself in front of people who KNOW HOW to PRODUCE, and learn from them. Model them.
3. My God! Please be consistent. You don't get rich in this biz by dilly-dallying around. Do SOMETHING every single day to propel your business forward. That action will keep you fresh, in the game and learning every day. Heck, even after coming back from a two week vacation and doing nothing but have fun, I wasn't as smooth as I was before I left. A few days later, because I was IN ACTION, I was back on my game again.
4. Don't be stupid and quit. Even if you absolutely suck at prospecting and you're putting yourself, your product and your opportunity out there, you are bound to luck out and find someone way better than you. Also, please PLEASE realize that success is a journey that takes PATIENCE. I didn't get rich overnight. This ain't the lottery. It will take you longer than you probably think it will. Hang in there.
5. Be grateful. Have an attitude of gratitude REGARDLESS of where you are today. Who cares if your check is $4.67 today. You're alive, aren't you? You have friend, right? Food on the table I hope? There are many blessings that we all have regardless of how good or bad our life is financially, spiritually or any other way, even if life really stinks right now.
You can DO this. It takes HARD work and DEDICATION. But trust me. I went from a broke 22-year old stoner to multi-millionaire with total life freedom. I don't say that to boast at all. Just to say that if "Dead Head surfer with broke parents" could do it, why not you? Why not you? Why not you?
Another thought from my day.
See ya!

Re:It's so hard to make money in MLM....
Well said Todd.
It's always hard in the early days to not get sucked in to the 'hype' of every opportunity out there. (or was that just me?)
But as you say, it doesn't matter what business you choose. If others are making money there, then the problem isn't really with the business. And by 'others' I don't just mean the 'guru's', cos let's face it, the TOP guys could sell sand to the Arabs and make money.
What matters is belief and committment. Sticking with something long enough to see it grow. Nothing grows without proper nourishment. Whether that's your business or your garden.
I like your posts! Keep em coming!

PS Todd
I am a member of a business/social networking site and within that site, I created a group for 'newbies' to learn from each other.
Would you mind if I put a link in there to your post? I think it's something that all 'newbies' would benefit from? I'm just not too sure it's allowed.
Thanks.
By the way, the link to the group is here, in case you want to check out where the link would be posted.

Re:It's so hard to make money in MLM....
Wonderful post, Todd. You tell it like it is. So many people give up on their dreams or complain that it didn't work. But didn't take the time to think if they took their goals seriously.
So many treat their MLM or home business like a hobby. Very few people realize that it takes true effort to make dreams come true.
So what if it will take 5 years to make a six figure income. Heck, even 10 years!
Most people are not able to make that much income being an employee within that short period of time.
You must have vision and really take your goals seriously, if you plan to accomplish them.

I liked your post man. I come from a similar type of background. I teach martial arts full time and have to say. Skill is everything. The same thing applies online the more you learn the more you can accomplish.
Most people never achieve any real success in martial arts thats because as soon as they realize it might actually take work to become a good fighter they leave. To much work...
Same applies online.

Hey Todd!
Great post.
I am amused when folks say they can't make money in Networking.
I have been involved in several traditional businesses and I can tell you, Networking is a piece of cake compared to that! I was profitable my first month in my business and remain so to this day and it's GROWING.
As you so eloquently stated, find a business that you can be passionate about and STAY THERE.
Opportunity jumpers never really make any money in the end.
Live your Dream!

Re:It's so hard to make money in MLM....
GREAT ADVICE. I have only been in network marketing a year and while I am not doing as well as the heavy hitters, I am keeping my head above water even if barely. The one thing that has been hard for me this year is looking at the heavy hitters and thinking what is wrong with me, why am I not doing that well. People, don't get hung up on the "results not typical" marketers. Remember, they add that phrase for a reason. Most people don't go from jobless to Level 6 Director in 6 months so don't get hung up on those that do and think that something is wrong with you because your not doing that well. If you are seeing steady growth regardless of how slow it is, hang in there and take Todd's advice. Most wealthy people didn't get that way overnight, what makes you think you will?
Happy Holidays Everyone,
Connie
