I read the rules about keeping things PG on this site.

However, I am curious about why no one has addressed the freedom of speech and censorship issues that seem to come into play in deciding what opportunities are appropriate to share here.

Also, this site is supposed to be an international one.

And, a lot of other countries do not uphold the Puritan, mainly sexually repressed values of the average American.

So, when we make ethnocentric, sexual morality calls on this site, what are the implications?

Thank you for your time and attention!

Cheers!

It seems to me that we have several issues here.

We have the assumptions of many, based on the initial post, that the offending business is not in the "adult toys" end of the market, nor the glossy Playboy version of the market, but is instead something nastier and seedier by far.

Now, as I haven't seen the business that has been complained about, I cannot judge for myself and, for that same reason, neither can the majority of contributors to this thread. The site management have seen the evidence and have enforced their guidelines, as they are entitled to do.

We have the avowed belief of some, that porn in all its manifestations is immediately harmful to all. Those who espouse that view are entitled to their belief. Those that do not espouse that view are also entitled to theirs.

We have the response of others who remind us that censorship and freedom of speech or expression are two sides to the same coin; that the ability to walk a middle path is the most difficult of all to achieve.

We have the calming reminders from Mark and Erik that the key point is not our own morality and values, which should be strong enough to withstand corrupting influences and powerful enough to allow us to lead others to uphold their own values. The key point is that this site, like any private members' club, has rules and guidelines that need to be followed.

We are here to learn to be leaders. We are here to learn to actively listen to others. We are here to understand the needs and motivation of others, to show them by example how they can achieve their dreams.

If we reject others outright due to their choice of route towards achieving their dreams, how are we leading? How are we setting an example? Why are we judging sight unseen? What do we have to learn to help ourselves and others to grow?

Pretty simple really... BN.com is privately operated. So think of the "keep it PG" rule as a house rule. It's sort of like if you are a guest at my house and you come in sprouting all kinds of garbage that I find offensive, I have every right to kick you out :)

I didn't realise this post was still going. I thought the issue had been resolved by Carl's clear message that quite simply 'porn' isn't allowed on BN. And as Raymond has rightly pointed out, as BN is privately owned and operated then the owner gets to make any rules they want. Visitors can make suggestions if they want to see something changed, but that's it. We don't get to change the rules just because we don't like them.

One point that would be worth clarifying is why porn is allowed to be promoted in the opportunitiy section, but not in the forums?
Okay, I finally opened up.

They aren't/shouldn't be allowed there either...

No you are not nuts....

Personally, I can't think of anywhere that porn would be appropriate...

By the way, I am not some little prude, I just don't think sex is a "public" subject. I feel strongly that it is a very private and sacred responsibility.

I could not agree with you MORE that MLM is NOT the place for this. :!: This is a personal preference, and one that should stay that way. Not sold to the masses amongst valid and safe products and services like the ones you and I sell.

I am not impressed with this at all.

I can see everyones point on this, but this is a business. I can say for a fact 90% of the people in this business are not doing it for the product but rather the opportunity and the uniqueness/freshness of this opportunity.

As far as the people saying the product is sex, its not really. Its not like its prostitution.

That's a really good point, it's not sex you're selling, you're selling entertainment. do you think cinemas sell movies? They sell entertainment. Do amusement parks sell rollercoaster rides? No, they sell entertainment.
And although I am no fan of porn and I wouldn't join a porn mlm just for the money, it's not good to judge them based on that.my two cents.

This isn't about 'judging' anyone or their choice of business. If you're in MLM then this is a great place to learn how to be a Better Networker, and grow your business, regardless of what your MLM product is.

The BN rules include the following:

No profanity or offensive material of any kind (including nudity) - this also applies to the businesses you wish to represent and promote. Let's try to keep BetterNetworker.com PG.

The question arises then what constitutes 'offensive', because my tolerance will very probably be different to everyone else's. However, I can't imagine a porn business that doesn't include nudity, so that makes it unacceptable here at BN. Regardless of whatever else anyone may think.
