Hi,
Here, my top five why people fail in MLM.
1.They don’t believe in the company.
2.They don’t believe/understand (or even bother to learn) the recruiting system.
3.They don’t believe in themselves
4.Wrong expectation
5.Lack of vision or a dream
So, you must have vision and dreams to stay long enough with your MLM company.
Does this top 5 make sense?
What are your thoughts about this?
bye
Hugo

#1. The don't believe in themselves ... (poor mindset)
Swap that out and I'd say it's a good list.

Re: 5 reasons why people fail in MLM
How's it going Hugo, first off I'd like to say welcome to Betternetworker.
Now I will address your post. The only point you made I will agree with is #4. Forest I agree with you that people do not believe in themselves but this spawns all from the fact that people have the wrong expectations and mindset when it comes to making money online.
What the everyday marketer needs to be able to do is decipher the hype and cliche marketing; then be able to approach a business with the proper mindset and expectations. Everything else spawns from trial and error and just overall experience. But you cannot go anywhere without the proper mindset and expectations.
Realize that there is a simple equation to why most people fail online
Improper mindset/expectations + time = discouragement
Discouragement + more time + more effort = quitting
Quitting = failure
If you can stop from being discouraged, be realistic about things (don't let your hopes get crushed) and you cannot fail online.
Good post topic.

I would also add a "poor upline experience" to that list, probably more so than some of your items.
(no disrespect intended)
And certainly not to discredit the need for a person to "be their own person" and MAKE IT happen...
But there are countless stories of people who were introduced into the industry to then be left alone by their upline sponsor/enroller whatever you call it.
People that are 100% n00b at network marketing or being in business for themselves for that matter have no clue what they are doing and have even less of a clue how to do it correctly. A lot of people are quickly abandoned by these so called "leaders" to fend for themselves. It's like leaving a baby in the woods and wishing them goodluck.
I think we take for granted just how fortunate we are and where we came from, after having been exposed to any material like you find here on BN for even a few minutes, compared to what the "average joe" has to work with. Think about your life prior to taking the red pill....
The general population is inundated with negativity, fear, cattle prodding, herd mentality education all their lives, then some bouncy mlm rep comes along, scoops em' up and brings them in to the world of sales and marketing. Remember Neo's response when he was first exposed to the truth?..... he puked his guts out from delirium and the sheer overwhelming nature of what he was shown.
n00bs tend to respond the same way. They are overwhelmed and scared to be honest. Rip away any inkling of guidance, mentoring and direction... (read: Holding Their Hand Until They Learn To Walk) and they are doomed to failure 97% of the time. Joe simply has no clue how to navigate our world and is quickly lost.
Your list is based on lessons and concepts that average people know nothing about and have been shielded from the principles and mindset that accompany them. That's why it is referred to as "the Secret." It may seem painfully obvious to you now, but had you not chased the white rabbit, do you think you would even be on this forum having this discussion?
Moral of the Story: If you plan on pulling a rescue mission to bring a copper top out of the matrix, you better make sure you are ready to be their operator for the long haul... surviving their new life depends on it.
PS:
Please do not take this as an attack or anything... I give you mad props for being here and engaging.
I'm simply sharing a different perspective on a theme.

Why? If you're going to do it - you're going to do it - with or without upline support. That's not an excuse anytime. Period.

1. They are not committed to themselves or goals...
That's it! If you really want something you will find it out no matter what! You will make mistakes, you will waste money, but you will eventually get the desire results with what you are trying to achieve!
It's that easy. I would spend more time in figuring out how to succeed, rather that wondering why people fail, unless that is your target market for you business.

That is precisely my point Forest...
I'm sure we're all familiar with the popular statistics in our industry and in entrepreneurship in general.
Only 1-3% of the population gets it, and they are the ones that you hear about in success stories.
The rest of the population HAS TO BE TAUGHT to think that way.
The fire that burns inside a born entrepreneur isn't common, and in fact, sometimes isn't even realized in the person until midway in their life; even THEY need to be guided and mentored to help them understand what it is inside of them that makes them who they are.
My point exactly is that so many people raise their hands but are left behind if they are unable to perform like a thoroughbred right out of the gate. The original list spoke of "wrong expectations," I argue that many times, it is we, the network marketers, whose "expectations" are skewed and too many people are left behind; deemed unworthy because of a lack of immediate understanding and performance.

Re: 5 reasons why people fail in MLM
Hi Hugo,
everyone has made some valid points, I personally think it's important to work together with your up/down line, we all need motivation and support which your upline should provide and you should be there to start off, guide and build a relationship with your downlines.
Another point no one mentioned which I think is important is that people cannot handle rejection, we all know in this business rejection comes part of the package and if we can't handle it or it demotivates us and we give up then perhaps the business isn't right for us.
I guess my point can be classed under #4, however the wrong expectation can also be interpreted as expecting results straight away without much effort or you expect to set it up and it keeps working for you, meaning you aren't expecting to input capital/effort into the business.
Good luck with your business.

Re: 5 reasons why people fail in MLM
I agree that people sometimes have wrong expectations. So many people have that get rich quick mentality that they don't actually put in the work to build their business, because that is what mlm should be, a business. As far as the upline, I think it would make things so much easier and enjoyable if everyone had a supportive upline, but even if they don't, if they really want it to work than it can happen with or without an upline support system.

Re: 5 reasons why people fail in MLM
you need 3 things to succeed 1. The Basic Skills 2. People skills 3. Personal Growth
You need to do this to succeed but it is up to you to do it.
1. Is finding Mentors who will Teach you. Who have built a MLM today. and then you do what they do and follow their Lead. Follow their instructions. You must be coach able. You must be willing to do what they say. Every Great MLM Guru I know Had a Mentor. It is the missing piece for Many. With out a Mentor they Fail. That is why I love Mentoring for Free. We will mentor people for free. I paid over 10,000 for other Mentoring and nothing compared to this hands on Training. You are never alone you have a whole Team of People Cheering you on.
2. People Skills You need to understand People
3. But if you still are failing after all that It is Personal Growth.
How much time do you invest in Your Personal Growth a Day?
