How’s About Some FREE Time Management Tools and Tips?

Postby Dave Polanco on Wed Apr 08, 2009 1:04 am

Before posting this, I wanted to write about a pretty neat time management tool called RescueTime which is serving me quite well.

RescueTime is free software you can download to your PC with lots of useful features that helps to effectively manage your time, and which was recommended by Tim Ferriss, author of The New York Times best seller The 4-Hour Workweek.

We all know how valuable our time is, so I thought I'd write about a free tool to help in that department.

Sorry. Just had to post that.

Then it hit me…

Maybe someone on BetterNetworker has posted some info about it.

Well, I snooped around and… lo and behold!

I bump into an article on time management tips written by BetterNetworker Joyce Jacobsen who did a superb job with it, and which also mentions RescueTime.

So this is a plug for Joyce’s expertly written article on time management.

For your benefit…

Thanks, Joyce!

Here is another tool that has a free option and can help to manage time

genbook.com

You can use it to allow prospects to book appointments for consultations or coaching at times that you are available.

They have a basic button that is easy to add to your website.

Not one Minute Should be wasted. While you are taking a Shower you should be listening to Great leaders in your Industries CD's. When you are Driving your Care you should be listening to Information that reprograms Negivitive thinking. You should not have time for TV. Your Time should be on learning the Skills to Become more. You do not have Free time left when Washing Dishes or Cleaning the House you should be listening to Books that these Fabulous Genius Have written.
You may already be doing this well do it some more.

3 simple but very effective tips for saving time.

1) Turn off your audio and visual alerts for new email.

2) Allocate specific blocks of time for reading and answering emails, then focus on doing things that move your business forward.

3) Allocate specific times for twitter, facebook etc. and do not be tempted to "stray" into these sites when you are doing something that requires concentration, like calling people, or writing articles.

If you think you will give yourself the luxury of spending a few minutes on any of these, before you know it you will find an hour has gone by.

Great input, guys!

After a while, we tend to develop our own systems of time management that we implement
to make use of time more efficiently.

Remembering things is also difficult for many of us, especially when there are many things on the agenda.

I learned a quick tip of long number memorization from Mark Joyner's Simpleology.

Taking, for instance, a number like 234565483661 and 'chunking' it into a group of four numbers to make it look like 2345 6548 3661 makes it easier to remember than trying to remember the long version without pause.

Repeating things aloud also helps with the process.

I found a really helpful site, aptly named Memorize Everything, that teaches memorization techniques in an easy to learn format. Best of all, the tips and tricks are free.

There is an enormous amount of info out there to help us save time, thanks to the world wide web.

And thanks to the BetterNetworkers on this forum.

You guys Rock!

Dave,

Thanks for the tips and information. I just headed over to the website you recommended, looks interesting.

Here's another site that can mange your to-do-list for free, moreover it's compatible with most cellphones.

Good idea for the post. Back to basics... separate URGENT tasks from IMPORTANT ones every morning and spend 70%+ of your time on the important-but-not-urgent ones. These are like showing plans, writing a blog, researching adwords, building relationships... you get the picture.

The time wasters (spend less than 10% of your time on each) are:

Urgent+Important = crisis works (they will take care of themselves whether you do anything or not)
Urgent+Not important = distractions (like phone calls, emails, alerts...)
Not urgent+Not important = flush time (like TV watching, tabloid reading, thumb twiddling...)

:)
“...principles that will help you grow, not only in business but in life... in this well written treatise.
No networker should be without this book.”

You're welcome, esericsu.

Yes "remember the milk" is a very useful daily planner tool.

drwhitefield, you're quite right. Sort of like having three separate piles
of "To Do" things ranging from Most Important to Least Important
tasks in an organized fashion.

Which reminds me of a tip I first learned from reading "Think and Grow Rich",
then from a tele-seminar conducted by Mike Litman, which was:

Just before going to bed, write down on a pad of paper --

The Six Most Important Things To Do The Very Next Day

Listing the items 1 through 6, starting with the most important to the least
important tasks.

This would help ingrain it onto the subconscious mind during sleep, which results
in the automatic execution of the tasks during the day in a sort of "instant recall"
fashion.

Pretty neat technique, if you ask me.

Good job, guys!
