I market a business on the internet and I received an email with a name and a phone number. I called and spoke to this man, Mark Baker 512-502-5384. Before I'd said much he started telling me "here's the deal...I know what I'm talking about." So I said it sounded like he had it all under control, whereupon he said it sounded like I was a "stupid c*nt for not listening to him". I hung up the phone then he called back and left a message saying he was going to turn my ip address in to places and tell them I am in violation of their policies and get me banned.
Now I have no idea how to combat this kind of internet terrorism but I would like to make sure it doesn't happen to you or anyone you know.
If you have any suggestions as to what I should do about it, I would love to hear so that I will know for future reference what I should do or how to conduct myself in any similar situation.

Not sure what kind of attention your attracting and what kind of business your in, but if someone is rude you should hang up instantly. Always use a phone line for business only , avoid giving your home number. It happens to the best of us. Don't let it bother you and avoid rude people. You may also want to report it as spam ! and or block that number from ever contacting you.

Remain in control. Ignore the ignorant, get busy building your dreams! This fellow will go away quickly if you don't engage him! Trust me on this, if you engage him it will get uglier as you go, so best to treat him as if he doesn't exist. There's really no other option available for you in my humble opinion!

Brush it off. People like that thrive on creating drama and stirring up others who are on the right track. I'm sure it's all talk on his end, unless of course you're marketing something detrimental. Move on, let it go, on to the next lead. Don't take his malice personal as I'm sure it isn't.

First of all Joy that is horrible. I am so sorry to hear about your experience.
You know there are some people in this world that are simply lost; I've dealt with this kind of thing before.
The best thing to do is get your head in a positive place and move forward.
I would say to forget this guy but that won't happen for a long time; so use it.
Use it to cherish the positive things in your life.
Use it to acknowledge the positive people in your life.
Use it to recognize that you are a decent human being who would never treat someone this way.
Use this experience to remind you how how to approach people and how to treat them; with respect and decency.
And I would also say to keep this last little bit in mind as well...
You never know what kind of day someone else is having.
The fact is you never know what place a person is at in their life when you call them.
90% of the people online who signup for this or that, at the end of the day, have no idea where they've been online. When you call they truthfully may not have a clue who you are.
I'm not condoning his actions at all.
On the contrary, my bet is this guy was just an asshole who vented on you.
My point is, do not let this hit you too hard and never take it personally.
Just move on and stay strong in your quest.
I hope that helps.
Sincerely,
~Richard

Thanks so much to all of you who gave me your thoughts. I really appreciate the support. Several of you asked questions and no he wasn't a paid lead, he was someone who had responded to my craigslist post.
It has helped me to write things down and Richard you are exactly right about being grateful for the contrast and perspective I can take away from this.
It's great to have a community to turn to with questions, even better to have friends to turn to for support. Thanks again everyone who took the time to respond. Joy

This a$$hat called me today too. Said "he was returning a call". I have no idea who he is, and I am SURE I didn't call him.
I told him "I have a program in the real estate niche, but I don't call people, I market and they join to get the funds to complete their deals" (it's for real estate investors) and he went off calling me names and all sorts of stuff.
At that point I hung-up. He called me back after hiding his phone number, lol. What an idiot. I already had it from the 1st time.

It is Just another day at the office. I hope that never happens to you again the reason I asked if it was a Lead that happened to me once when I bought leads. YOur Friend for Life

Wow...what an odd situation.
At first I thought maybe it was someone from within your company that was going to "report you" for maybe going against company policy.
Then when someone else reported a similar call, sorta made that theory lose steam. I guess thats why promoting a business opportunity is just never the direction to go. As you hear over and over again on BN. Promote you, build your relationships, provide things of value to create trust and value. Once you've established that relationship or have even moved people to your list and onto your autoresponder, you wont have these issues.
Thats what I do, I never lead off with my mlm. I offer information, maybe a free download that networkers will find of value, move them to my autoresponder and begin to deliver my message to them. So think about moving your marketing in that direction and pre-qualify people so you only work with people that are interested in what you have to offer.
