I am trying to learn as much as possible about PPC.
I have purchased a few domain names and want to advertise on Google adwords BUT I am having problems. Did google change their policy? I want to list my domain address, and forward it to my main site.
I keep getting an "inaccurate URL Display" error.
Can anyone guide me how to do this correctly? I really would appreciate the help
Thanks
Sully

Re: PPC and Google Adwords help
I am still learning on PPC, but I think Google does not allow forwarding the URL to another URL or masking. You have to create your own landing page. I do not think there is a way around this.

Mike,
You can use masked or forwarded URLs with adwords. You have to login to your domain name account, I use godaddy. Godaddy has a setting that allows you to "mask" or forward your urls, called "forwarding".
On godaddy, once you have clicked on the domain name that you want to advertise in "my domains", click "fowarding" (it should say, "domain is not forwarded" in the middle of the page), click on that link. Then, click, "enable fowarding", and put in the name of your url for your landing page for your business website, (for example, http:/www.yourname.yourbiz.com) where it says "forward to".
Then click "move permanently" (you can change it later if you want). Now, every time someone goes to your new url, whether by typing in the name or clicking on any ad, they will be redirected to your business url.
It also sounds like you want to "mask" as well. Click "enable masking". This will allow you to put in any name (as a "masked title"). This title will show up on the tab on top of the browser whenever someone goes to your site. This page will also let you put in masked meta tags that will allow the search engines to properly categorize your site.
Click "ok" on the right to make sure it is saved...Wait a few hours before you test it. You can test by typing your new url into a browser and it should go to the business url.
I hope this helps! If you dont have godaddy, try to look around on your domain name account settings for something that says forwarding.
Forwarding is a good way to increase business, as people are more likely to click on an ad with a unique URL than one that says, http:/www.mybusinessname.com/myusernameblahblahblah...
Good luck!

Re: PPC and Google Adwords help
Hi Sully,
Unfortunately Google will not let you forward your domain to a site owned by an afilliate program. Depending on what you are trying to advertise maybe your company will host your URL for you.
The best piece of advice I can give you is to by a good book / course and start learning the art of PPC.
In my opinion the following are great:
PPC Domination. Jim Yaghi and Mike Dillard- This is great training mainly video based.

Perry Marshall – Definitive guide to Google Adwords. This is an E-Book and a comprehensive must have guide.

Re: PPC and Google Adwords help
Paul,
Maybe Im wrong? I dont forward to any affiliate programs, but I do forward to a url with the form: http://www.mybiz/myname. com. for my main business.
What would be the difference between my main biz and an affiliate link? Is it the type of site? That doesnt make sense to me, but I am always learning. I do know that my main biz website has the same form as my affiliate url.
So, Paul, are you saying that my mike dillard magnetic sponsoring site below in my signature would not work with a forwarded url? I haven't tried it, but now I might have to.
Thanks.
.........PS. i tried it and it works just fine

Hi Sean,
Your link to Magnetic Sponsoring will work just fine with your links in your email. You might find you struggle with google adwords when forwarding from your URL to Mike Dillard's Affiliate link. I know that I have have always failed to get my adwords working for more than a short period of time.

Re: PPC and Google Adwords help
Strict forwarding of URLs through Google Adwords.....they really dont' allow that any more.
When I say forwarding, I mean strict domain forwarding....i.e. when you have a XYZ domain on your pay per click ad and when the user clicks on it, the url link at the top is ABC. Domain masking is another story
Google really doesn't allow straight forwarding much anymore, as it gives a bad "user experience"
My best recommendation is to use your own landing page as you will have total control over your "conversion zone" and can tailor it to suit your needs.
Again, this is in relation to Google Adwords and not email marketing.
Hope that helps.

Re: PPC and Google Adwords help
I would personally not recommend forwarding and masking your url when using Google Adwords. You may get away with it for awhile, but eventually Google will stop your ads. Google's main objective is user experience, and masked/forwarded domains do not give a positive user experience in the eyes of Google.
Also, you would not be able to track which ads were actually producing leads inside your Google account when you mask your domain. Google would be unable to read your thank you page, so your ads would always read zero conversions inside the adwords center. You would have to figure out another way to track your ads to see what was working and what wasn't. (this only applies to lead conversion, not ctr)
The best thing you can do for using adwords is to have your own domain name hosted by you, or your company - if they provide hosting.
