How to make money with your MLM

Hey guys,

I have been with Amway / Quixtar for about 8 months now, my upline is not very helpful, nor is his upline. So basically im on my own in my business, with no mentors. I am really looking for a mentor who has been in network marketing and knows its ups and downs. In my 8 months I have done tons and tons of research, also i bought into magnetic sponsoring, even though i need help getting the ball rolling on that too. I have started to put ads on google, but i literally havent gotten a single hit, click, nothing. So if you guys could leave me with some knowlege on how you sponsored your first rep for your biz, how you found retail customers, basically anything you did to earn that first MLM check, it would be greatly appreciated...thanks to all, and have a great weekend!!

Your first check is the best.. It's going to really excite you because the opportunity will become real for you.
As far as how to generate your first check, the first thing I would tell you is to start with your existing data base unless you've been in this business before. Branding yourself online is going to take some time and you can earn your first check while you are learning this online game.

Know that it takes time specially if you decide to do it online from day 1.

Believe me, Existing data base can help you while you master this online thing!

Michael,

If you've been with Amway for 8 months and haven't seen any results you should drop out of that. Realize that it is going to be much harder to market something that is very saturated, and Amway is one of the most saturated MLM companies out there.

In my opinion if you've been with any business for 8 months and haven't sponsored anyone then DROP OUT. Find something new, find a fresh slate and get on the right track.

I agree with Nathaniel. Get out. Eight months is way too long to not have a healthy, growing check.

I know there are those out there who think 8 months is too long to start seeing some success. There are a small percentage who do make a success very fast and this is wonderful. However, I noticed from listening to champions of MLM, that the majority of them, were not successful in their first few years, even more. I am talking about MLM champs such as: Tim Sales, Todd Falcone, Randy Gage, Eric Woore, and more. It is true that they changed companies (more than twice for some), but changing companies didn't guarantee their success. They never gave up on the industry or more importantly, themselves. I may be wrong, but I sense that you may be having doubts about your ability to succeed.

Whether you want to change your current company is up to you. Ask yourself honestly if you changed companies would you get different results. The fact is, if there have been thousands of people successful in your company over its 50 year history, is it really your upline, the compensation plan, the training, or is it you? Why should people follow you and trust that you will be a leader that cares about them? This industry is not easy (regardless of what people tell you and what great system they might be pitching).

It is in situations like yours that most network marketers quit because they get frustrated. It could be for a number of reasons from no training, not developing relationships to simply not working the business, or fear of stepping out of their comfort zone. Many people also join a company for the wrong reasons, such as their Uncle Joe was a part of it and by gosh since I know and trust Uncle Joe it must be good. Why did you join this company and what is your reasons and why? What are your goals? If you have no sense of direction, then how can you know where you are going?

Well....we all have seen it as Leaders...

People come into this business and have all the dreams in the world ready to grab...and they start this business, and down the road, they become the Amazing Disappearing Distributor(as we covered a couple of weeks ago)....what happened? What went wrong?

We have studied relentlessly people who have quit and left the business, and also folks who have had great Success...

1) "Trying the Business."

Many folks who come into this business, have a focus of "I am going to try it and see what happens.."
That is a death toll for this business. People who TRY the business are not sold on it, and are not serious about it. this business demands everything you have inside of you, and will stretch you to the
limit....and if you are only in it to try it....than do yourself a favor and get out of it. it will only drive you crazy with the frustration a half hearted effort and belief brings....here is a question we ask all
the time in our seminars...

"Have you made a Choice to TRY this Business...or a DECISION to Become Successful in it?" Your destiny lies within your answer...

2) "Distractions." Life has a way of throwing daily distractions in front of you to de-focus you in your business...and then we start using those distractions as excuses not to perform at Maximum Fire....whatever your distractions are...remember this...

KILLER Secret: Every distraction you focus on has a cost and you must pay that cost in your business....and they can cost you a ton of money....

And we usually ALLOW distractions to slow us down and stop us....they are not something we cannot control...we just refuse to and end up so distracted we just lose focus and then lose interest....question
is....who is the REAL loser in this picture???

3) "Listening to the Wrong People." Well meaning friends...God bless ‘em....but they can kill your
excitement and dreams quicker than you can say..."DreamStealer!" Let me ask you a question...would you go to someone who has never worked on a car before to get you car fixed? of course not...Would you go to someone who has never cut hair before to cut it for an important dinner?...Of course not....Would you go to a plumber to do heart surgery? of course not...nor would you go to a surgeon to put a new hot water tank in....

Why? They have not done what you want done ... wrong person to ask and listen to...No matter how the plumber tried to convince you he could operate on your heart...you wouldn't listen to him....why do people listen to folks who have never had success, never experienced success, and who know little of success, about success? That one is a mystery...listen to the Right folks who can help you get to where you want to go and has BEEN THERE!

4) "Busy AT the Business, but not busy BUILDING the business." There are a lot of great activities that you can do in network marketing, and you can get real busy preparing....for meetings, for phone calls,
for 3 ways, for follow ups, for trainings, for events, for just about anything....but you are not earning a dime....

KILLER Secret:

There is only ONE THING you do to build this business and earn a paycheck...

Communicate with people. And if you are not talking to people about signing up, or buying your
product, or doing it with you to show them how...you are busy AT the business...but not building it...

You build this business one customer at a time, one distributor at a time....but...

Not the same one all the time....(CLUE!!!!!)

5) "Not Plugging In." There was a study done by my old company, and they found an amazing
fact....the distributors that plugged their new distributors into the company system(voice mail, email, conference calls, trainings, etc) had a 70% retention rate the first year....those that did not plug in had a 30% retention rate...

Leaders Plug in....

6) "Co-Dependency." There is a reason why your application says "Independent Distributor"....you are to become independent from your sponsor....but there are some who have a co-dependency.....they depend on their sponsor for success....and depend on their Excuses to not give it 100%.

They are "co-dependent" on the 2 things that they should not be...yes, you lean on your sponsor at first to learn this business, but you MUST get independent quickly...why?

KILLER Secret: You will never get a big paycheck depending on someone else to create it for you....The less dependent you are on your upline, the more your paycheck will be due to you downline..(CLUE!!!!)....

7) "Lack Of Success Expectancy"(LOSE) What you expect to happen in this business generally does...and a lot of people who come into this business deep down inside expect it not to work...and it doesn't....they have never experienced nor expected success in their life, and never will...Expectancy is MAGNETIC! And if someone does not expect to Succeed...they won't....

KILLER Secret: The key word in Lack Of Success Expectancy is LACK. that is their mindset, and will do this business through that filter in their mind, and continue to create lack in their life.....

When you focus on LACK....You put a LOCK on the door to success...It is called The "Lock of Lack"....

8) "Trying to Re-Invent the Wheel" This one is a goodie....happens all the time...folks go out and try to
figure out a "better" way to do what already has been done, and end up going broke, when they should have just taken the tools and run with them.....improvement is great....AFTER you have mastered the basics and tools that your company has....

I did this for a year...trying to get a 'better" tape...a "better" rochure....and I had some strong ideas....but was a novice in the industry....did not take me long to see I did not have the experience
to rewrite the script, so I embraced the tools that the company had...and things exploded....I am just trying to get you not to make the same mistake I did...

9) "Lack of Leadership Focus from the Upline."

Simply...you as a Leader must provide Leadership to your group and create a growth and success environment....if you do not...you are setting your group up to fail....and they MUST have leadership in the beginning because they are new....you cannot do this business FOR them, but you can do it WITH them as a leader out in front.....

KILLER Secret: Your Leadership is the North Star of your group...leading the way...No North Star...No Compass and Navigation...and lots of attrition.....

10) "Building the Wrong Thing" As Leaders, you can spend a lot of time building the wrong thing with
your downline....you can build all the business you want, but if you are not building your people's confidence, skills, and self esteem as well...then you will have a very fragile business that is built on
sand....People who are believed in and encouraged and listened to...will stay longer with you, become more successful, and will ride out any storm with you by your side...been there done that....

KILLER Secret: Build your PEOPLE FIRST...then the Business.....then if a storm comes
along, the business will be resting on a strong foundation..(CLUE!!!!!)

I am sure that quitting the MLM business that you are in would not help in any way. People will entice you to join the business in which they are. Well I am here to tell you what exactly you want to do with your MLM business.

# 1) Stop promoting your business. It seems strange at first but think of this, how many people join your business looking at your product, I am sure that 97% of people would have joined you not your MLM company.
# 2) Start branding your self and try to give more value to the people. If you have heard/read Mike Dillard then I am sure you might have noticed this on how to brand your self and how important is it to evaluate as a leader.
# 3) There is no secret ingredient to success, people trust your when you are interested in them and try to solve there problem.
# 4) Be ready to change your core values, Network marketing was never a gold mine or a share market where you put in your money and it will return you the profits.
# 5) Try to build your own list not your company list. The trust that people have generated in you would also look for your recommendation and do the same if you think of joining the new uptrend business.
# 6) Try to leverage your work look out how you can generate leads for your mlm business with out any cold call, calling friend and families and becoming a joke in them.
# 7) Learn different marketing techniques

Chris - you have a very valuable point that others have been successful in Amway so he should look at himself. However, my point is the compensation plan should allow even the most inexperienced network marketer to make a dollar. And every month that dollar should be growing. After 8 months he should be covering his expenses for sure and maybe making some profit. Anything less is unacceptable.
Now should he be tapping into other resources to learn if his upline is non-supportive? Definitely ! However there are other companies, other uplines, other comp plans that will provide what he needs to boost his enthusiasm and success! Why should he go through the frustration of no financial compensation when it is available by making changes in either company, upline or product?
It was mentioned that success did not come immediately to some of the "big" guys and that they had changed companies along the way. That happens. You get involved. Find out what you need or what is lacking and you make changes. It's part of the journey.

Hey Mike,

I want to give you some tips, if you don't mind, I am
going to be a bit hursh on ya.

1. stop putting the blame on your upline, that it isn't helpful
or supportive. They will not build your business for you.

2. If you have magnetic sponsoring, one of the best training
resources available to any internet marketer, than it is time
to take action.

3. Stop waiting for something to happen, if you feel Amway
doesn't work for you, leave it, get into something else, fail again,
get into something else, fail some more, and finally become wise enough
to succeed.

I can feel your frustation with "Amway" and any MLM that you are working. The most important thing you need to promote any buisness is "Leads" these people are looking for leaders to show them the right opportunity. I agree with Chris Gob. Amway is one of the major MLM businesses that continually generates billions of dollars. Therefore, it works! Amway also has many products that you can market and find your niche within the company. The key is in branding yourself. Study Magnetic Sponsoring and learn how to do that; and marketing the program in a way that interests people and once you learn to do that people will begin to trust you and perhaps join you. I think you need to take some time and really study your business along with Magnetic Sponsoring. You may find that Amway is not the perfect business for you. If that's the case, then you get out and find one that is a better fit for you. Or, you will grow with Amway.
