DO NOT USE MASKING ON AFFILIATE LINKS

Postby Michael Taylor on Sun May 31, 2009 3:55 pm

I feel a little crazy asking this, but I think I am having a brain ____. But hoping someone could clarify it for me.

When it is stated not to Mask Affiliate Links, this would be like the link that I have for the Magnetic Sponsoring (www.(my user name).magneticsponsoringonline.com) this is what is considered a affiliate link?

Because I have some ads with Google running, but I think I have to use what is up top that I just wrote, because I can not/should not Mask a affiliate Link.

I believe when he talks about Masking in the workbook, it is for when you get your own sites and capture pages etc., or am I missing something?

Thank you in advance,

mtaylor,

We have been discussing this on another thread, that can be found here:

Sean,

I really appreciate the direction to find the answer, as it was what I thought. Networking and sharing is the key.

Thanks again,
Mike

Publicly marketing or promoting other threads is generally referred to poor etiquette in most forums. I have had success loading affiliate links into a frame that requires a user to interface within the frame. I believe http://About.com/ utilizes such a frame. Anyway, the following is a good source of information:

Domain Masking or URL Masking is the art of hiding the actual domain name of a website from the URL field of a user's web browser in favor of another name. There are a couple of methods to do this.

  • One could use an HTML inline frame or frameset so a frame embedded in the main website actually points to some other site.

  • One could use mod_rewrite or aliases to have the web server serve the same page for two different domain names.

Scott,
The link I provided for Michael is a link to a previous discussion that covered his question. We do this to minimize repetitive posts on a previously discussed topic.

Easy.

I also purchased adtrackz for the very same purpose with built in
click tracking. I have not yet had the chance to test it out but hoping
to very soon.

I also came across a free service for forwarding and masking rather
than having to pay for the .info domains.

http://dot.tk seems to work pretty good so far. Can also be used for
shortening urls in twitter.
Information Link: http://www.tweak.tk/

Would like to hear if any of you have used this service and your thoughts on it.
For free, seems pretty good. multi-functional.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Hey guys....
Just wanted to chime in here real quick and let you know about my latest secret weapon that is working like a champ.

First things first: The link I'll be referencing is my affiliate link.

OK, now that that is out of the way...
I use Affiliate Prophet
THIS SOFTWARE ABSOLUTELY KICKS ASS!

Seriously, I have several "secret weapons" in my arsenal that I rarely share with anyone outside of my paid clients or my team leaders, but I really love you guys and this community  so I want to share what's working for me.

You can read the sales page when you click on the link, but I will give you a quick overview and my results.

Setup is super simple. You install the php based application on your server, login and bada-bing you're up and running. Literally took me about 10 minutes from start to finish. I chose a domain in my portfolio that I use for hosting apps like this. Cool thing is, you can install on one domain, and use the script on unlimited domains outside of where you installed the software. Very Cool!

OK, so then you have a choice of 3 types of campaigns to setup, again you can read the details on your own, but the one I have been using is called an "Aff.Spy" campaign. This baby lets you setup up to 3 affiliate programs in a single campaign if you want, and then scrapes the landing pages for those programs and creates a single file that you can then host on your own domain. It's a beautiful thing. As a matter of fact, if you go to http://affiliateprophet.blurevu.com you'll see it in action.

There are a bunch of training videos included in the back office to help with all of this.

Once your campaign is up you'll be tracking at the keyword level with an optimized landing page hosted on your own domain. So the whole issue with double serving and disply url issues go right out the window. And since the process is dynamic, it will automatically update the content if the merchant makes updates to their landing page. From a quality score perspective it just doesn't get any better.

But it gets even better. This thing will insert dynamic sub ids at the keyword level for you with a single code snippet on your landing page url. It tracks referrer, track id, bid keyword, searched keyword, clicks, action, conv. rate, and provides trending data such as Attention Rate, Interest Rate, Desire Rate and Interest Level.

You can view data by Top 30 Most Searched for words, Top 20 Best Converting words, Hourly stats and all the usual time span sorts.

You can import data from your affiliate networks, such as clickbank, and then it will spit out all sorts of cool reports like campaign profitability, etc.

It even has a link cloaking generator built in if you need to use something like that. This is limited to cloaking links on the hosted domain.

MY RESULTS:
I wish I could do the whole screen shot thing, but I'm just too busy to do this today. But here's a bit of the results I got this week on a brand new AdWords account with a brand new campaign...

Last Saturday I setup the account, created the campaign and adgroups, created my ads, all of the usual stuff right? But here's the kicker, as soon as the campaign finished the crawling approval, I had 3 out of 20 adgroups with a 10/10 quality score and the rest were all 7/10. Most of the keywords started the day out between $0.75 - $1.95 CPC. By the end of the day I had everything down below $0.50 CPC. Today, all of the QSs are holding strong, including the 10/10s and some CPCs have been lowered to as little as $0.10.

I have since created 14 additional campaigns in this account with near identical results using my keyword process and the Affiliate Prophet software to create the landing pages. Especially the quality scores, every one has come in at 7/10 right out of the gate minimum. I don't know about you, but I always have at least a few crappy QSs that have to be fixed in a new campaign launch.

Anyway, I won't go into a big pitch fest or anything, you can read my results and check out the sales letter for more by clicking here.... Affiliate Prophet.

Let me know if you get a copy by sending me a PM here and I'll do some one-on-one email coaching with you to help you get it rolling.

Cheers!
