Hi Dean,

I heard this from Perry Marshall, who also referenced network marketing duplicate sites, etc. about 3 months ago or so. But I didn't do enough research to learn anything beyond this:

Basically, the content on the web page has to be very related to the key word, rather than 'bait people with a title and add that sounds related to their search and switch to something else you're selling.'

Having multiple web pages with content rich material related to the key word is a part of what they're looking for.

Have you heard anything beyond this; or, has something happened really recently?

I don't do much PPC right now and have only been following this as we're moving in that direction soon.

Did you come across a resource that talks about this?

I think it's great for anyone in business who likes less competition!

Dean,

This is my take on all this.

First of all, perry is awesome and I love the heck out of his stuff. I'm a member of his monthly newsletter and give it the highest recommendation to any marketer.

However, while he is keeping people on the "up and up" about the latest trends in google ppc........my take is that he is, and always has been, against people who just send traffic to affiliate sites without building their own list.

His USP is building a long term business via generating leads and has been his for quite a while.

He even put out a white paper a long time ago about his own version of "Google Cash", which essentially says build your list first and then market to them. Don't send people straight to a affiliate stuff.

With the rise in "affiliate" training programs (wealthy affiliate), and in particular ppc classroom.... he is hyping up the whole thing a little.......in terms of "see, I told you so!"

The last time he went on his "affiliate rant" he did in my opinion blow it a little out of proportion.

He IS right in the long run. But again, his "rant" serves his purposes for his marketing USP.

Also....notice he is DEAD against MLM and bizops, having had a hugely bad experience earlier in his life. Which also serves his USP, long term lead generation, building relationships via email, long term profits.

In fact, if I remember correctly, he just recently launched his own "how to" email marketing course, which I have no doubt is awesome.

He is an extraordinary marketer and well worth watching and learning from.

It's just another slam against people who are trying to use gimmicks and short-cuts.

In the long-run those people will NEVER win, and they shouldn't. I don't understand their mentality. They think making money is like playing a video game, and neglect to look at the long-term idea of building a real, lasting business.

They just lost another life, and now they have to start all over again.

I just write good content about the affiliate that I am promoting. That has always seemed to work for me pretty good. I just use wordpress instead of minisites. I seem to get a good rank in the search engines too.

Hey Kurt,

I think you're on to something here. Notice how the "email" Perry published from Dr. Livingston looks like a full-on article, prepared for release.

And yes, Perry bashes on thin affiliates all the time - he seems to share Google's vision that they offer zero value to their customers, which is true for the most part.

But Dr. Livingston "research" shows no proof, and a week after the posts' release, we still have no confirmation from Google that they started tracking affiliate links. Anywhere.

Another thing that people seem to forget everytime one of those "gurus" talks about a new slap is that the Adwords staff MANUALLY visits ALL campaigns every at least every 6-8weeks. If you're doing something sneaky that their crawlers dont catch, a human certainly will.

I guess what I'm saying is that even though Perry is right, the hype he creates benefits him, and most advertisers shouldn't worry so much. Simply build it to last, and not just to trick somebody into selling.

We've discussed a lot about this on this post here: http://www.betternetworker.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=17599

Howdy ya'll!
It's a big beautiful day in Wyoming and I thought I'd chime-in here.

Direct from several phone calls to Google, and contrary to "the hype," Google does not have it out for affiliates. I've spoken with Google reps open and direct about the issue. 98% of the time that I had a problem with a campaign and felt that they were "targeting me," we were able to identify a clear violation or oversight on my part, that once corrected, got my campaign singing without issue. They clearly outline affiliate concerns and questions in the help center.

Google does appear to be waging a campaign against lazy and/or shady marketers however; as Mike pointed out. Which is quite clear when you look at the events that have unfolded over recent months.

Kurt & Leo - I concur 100% guys, that "guru" speak is all about creating a buzz with hype. They wouldn't sell much if their audience was bored with their content. It's a known marketing fact - controversy sells.

I think the key here, if you plan to market using Google, is that you have to play by the rules, or be prepared to lose your position at a moments notice if you choose to go black hat, or even grey hat in some cases. And therein lies the rub - playing by the rules often times requires WORK.

For me it just doesn't make sense "gambling" my capital in hopes that Google won't catch on or that I might get away with something for awhile. Last time I looked, they've caught on to every single little trick that's out there. And the one's that are still under the radar - well it's just a matter of time.

If you're gonna gamble.... go to Vegas - at least you get free drinks!

I wish those who are always looking to cut corners, cheat the system, work hard at avoiding work, would simply find some other place to earn an income other than the Internet.

Just like in the Network Marketing industry, you have some who want something for nothing and they give the rest of us a bad reputation because of our association as Marketers. They simply clutter up the system instead of offering value.

It does not matter if you are offering affiliate products of others or your own product, I offer both, it is always how you do it that makes the difference for your long-term success.
