what happens when you know your product/management/comp plan all suck and you're still trying to deliver it? Is that posturing or lying?

Hey Tony,

I think the best thing to do when all that stuff sucks (which should seem pretty obvious) is to change it. You're not married to your company. To me, it seems more like a dating relationship. You get together and feel each other out. If everything works out for a while, you take it to the next step and get a little more seious. And if that works out, THEN you get married.

But based on what you're saying, it sounds like you're in a bad marriage that you just want to stay in. I mean, if it wasn't working out when you were dating, what makes you think a marriage would work?

And to tie all this into posturing, I couldn't possibly posture if I knew that all this stuff sucked. THAT would be lying. If all this stuff is great and you know it's great you don't really have to posture. People will just start being attracted to you.

This spawns a whole new thread, I'm starting one in the next 30 seconds. It's called, "Why You Don't Have To Posture to be a Magnetic Marketer."

MyNameIsJudy wrote:If I understand this correctly, having posture means having dignity, self-respect, and faith in myself and whatever product/opportunity/service I am promoting. I have to be well informed about my business and secure in myself to have posture. To lie, I just have to want something you have, and be willing to take it without regard to the ramifications to you or myself. That sounds like a great recipe for (possible) short term monetary success, and long term personal failure... not a viable option.

I appreciate all I've read here today. Thanks to you all. ~Judy

Hi Judy. Quoting Richard's definition of posture: Posture is the manifestation of confidence in what you are doing, where you are going and the unwavering belief that you'll get there.

I read Richard's quote a little differently sending it on to the newest members in my organization to affirm to them that they didn't need to know all about the company/products/service as posture doesn't necessarily include all of that. "Confidence in what you are doing" - joining network marketing. "Where you are going" - going to make enough money to pay off my mortgage or send the kid's to college. "Unwavering belief you are going to get there" - recognizing network marketing is a viable avenue that anyone can do if they have the desire to do it.

Based on that, the newest of the newest can have posture on their first day of signing up without the long learning curve of becoming an expert on their company, product or service.

Richard's quote is on my wall and when I feel or hear a lack of confidence in anyone I read them the quote and we discuss it - newest recruit to oldest. It brings them back on track.

To your success,

FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT.
Its all in the mindset. If you are a millionaire in your mind, then you will talk and walk and even dress like one. And that will attract others.

To lie is to say I have $5M in my checking account when you don't. Is that even necessary? NO. But the fact is you are running a Multi million dollars business (well at least mine)and you need to act like the CEO (which you are) and NOT as your initial investment. Posture

To me this seems to come down to the difference in someone who is arrogant vs confident.

Arrogant people are scared people who lie to maintain an image, to prove something, and often times to cover up a low self image. And to make another distinction arrogant people are not ignorant people, on some level they know they are lying.

Confident people are simply focused on improving something. Because when you have something you don't need to assert it to other people. That is posture.

This topic is starting to come up more and more all over the BN. I agree with you all. There is a fine line between having posture and lying.

People that lie just say that they are great. People with posture know that they are great.

I think there is no overlap between having posture and lying.

You can tell the truth and have or not have posture. You can tell a lie and have or not have posture.

Stand tall and deceive someone and you've got posture but are lying. It is done all the time, in and out of marketing.

Once again what got me to post my question that spawned Roy's thread was the admission by authorities and researchers that LYING IS AN EPIDEMIC, second nature to our culture and way of life. So why should marketers not be included?

If you want to check out the excerpt from the article my thread is IS ATTRACTION MARKETING ABOUT BEING A BETTER LIAR?

Allen, if you quote me maybe you want to drop by there.Thanks. But to answer you here, I think you're right. Being in a company is being in a realtionship and I am quite familiar with divorce, from 3 MLM companies and one wife!

Hop over to my thread for the rest if you're interested.

Like most, I struggled before learning it was both up to me to succeed AND to find a worthwhile company to join. They're NOT all equal.

Lying = Being Dishonest

Posture = Having something valuable to offer & knowing how to communicate it (verbally and non verbally) so others sense your confidence in that value offered. The basis of accomplishing this is:

a. Have something specific and valuable to offer
b. Having confidence that you can offer that value
c. Developing the skills required to communicate effectively
