:) Happy you raised this question and amazed at the replies.

At one time I was very bullish on twitter [ http://tw.DoOnlineBusiness.info ] but I now feel the only guys who have seriously made money with it have sold twitter-related products with huge hype.

Correct me somebody, please.

Hey Teresa and all,

There is HUGE Value in using Twitter and Social Media.

Think about your "mindset". Are you going in with a "Mindset" thinking this ain't gonna work? If so, STOP!

I'm building my Twitter right now also and its hard BUT GETTING MUCH EASIER as you get better.

Here's some tips for you...

1. Try to TARGET people in a "Niche" NOT Network Marketers.

ex. If you look at "Network Marketers" then you will see NOTHING BUT...

I was broke now rich cuz this report LINK

However, you look at people in the "golf market" and you actually see people having conversations.

So if possible find the "real" people that would be interested in your product/opp.

2. Start using "TweetDeck"

With this Free MUST USE Tool you can create "groups", control Multiple Twit Acct's and your Facebook Account.

Create "groups" of the people who actually reply and care about what you have to say... This way you can grow your list of followers as big as you want AND still have meaningful convo's while ignoring the BS. And you only see Tweets from these people in 1 of the columns.

But you can still spam the spammers. lol Just Kidding... Some people just don't know better but if you reach out and reply to them you might be suprised

3. Don't only send people links to your "Company Lead Capture Page!"

Send them to valuable content on your (AND OTHER PEOPLES)...

* Blog
* Video
* Article
* Free Report
* Funny Stuff
* and more

Make sure you are sending them to your YouTube Channel, Facebook Page, Blog... YouTube & Facebook links seem more TRUSTWORTHY than others.

4. Create "Free Line Products" that provide MASSIVE VALUE...

* Videos, Audios, Reports, Blog Posts, Articles

You need to be be providing value ALL THE TIME... AND EXPECT NOTHING IN RETURN!

5. Social Media is NOT about "making money"... ITS ABOUT BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS!

Would you want to be "friends" with someone that ONLY talked about "joining their MLM?" Of Course NOT!

So provide value AND TALK TO THEM AS FRIENDS!

6. Make sure your on at the right time...

Usually between 3-7 PM is best hours. All hours usually on weekends.

7. "ReTweet" other people's messages

If you see a funny tweet or anything cool RT it and they will love you for it... AND START "RTing YOURS"

Hope this helps. And I know its hard because of the market where in but you can find people ACTUALLY looking to have real convo's. I am sure there are tons in here!

Kindest Regards,
Kevin DaSilva

P.S. If you (or anyone reading this) wants to find me I'm at http://www.Twitter.com/kevindasilva

Find me and tweet me saying something like "Its me from the Better Networker" without any advertisements and I can be your 1st "ALIVE PESRON" on Twitter. And thats all it takes. And I will add you to my "group" of REAL PEOPLE!

Let build up each others lists.

Hi Teresa,

Here are a few tips that I think might help with this subject:

• The first thing to concentrate on is to have a good profile, that uses the keywords associated with whatever niche you’re targeting with your business.

• Look up people in your niche, and those who seem to be "Gurus". Check out whom they're following and whose following them. Start following these people, as long as their profiles show that they follow back. When you're first starting out, avoid following people with a bunch of followers, who don't follow them back.

• Don't just pursue people in your field. Cultivate followers/friends in other areas you're interested in, such as mountain bike riding, surfing, chess etc... This gives you a well rounded list, and many more opportunities to attract people into your business. A great site to find people who share your interest is WeFollow.com

Check it out and have fun : )

• After you’ve built up a good size list of followers, then start actually following some of the gurus. Remember, it’s all about branding.

And who you’re following makes a statement about you and what you’re into. These gurus, or authorities may not follow you until you build up some credibility in the community. That’s okay.

• Twitter does have rules about how many people you can follow in relation to those following you, so in general – try to stick with people who return the respect and who will follow you back.

• Don’t SPAM. If you don’t know what that means – find out…

80% to 90% of your Tweets should be interesting quotes, stories, helpful information, educational things, fun things…

Promote your business every 9th or 10th tweet.

I know that most people you run across are blasting their business and their links all over the place all the time.

This just turns into noise and causes the people who could really help you and your business to ignore you, label you as a spammer, and maybe un-follow you and block you.

Rules of social etiquette still very much apply online.

Nobody wants to hang out with someone who just talks about how great their business opportunity is or how great their products and services are. You always want to add value to other people. Give them something of value 80% of the time, and tell them about your business 20% of the time.

So, what this all boils down to is…

Be a real person, and form real relationships. People will buy from you because of who you are and because they want to return something to you for the value you’ve brought to them.

Its always about your service to the other person first. The rest will take care of itself.

Regards,

Dave

I have 2 Twitter Accounts, my personal one, and then one that I paid a marketing company to populate for me. I am still not sure yet how I feel about it. I paid them to generate 1000 followers, its up to about 550 now, but its all people pitching their businesses with no real "social" value, which is what Twitter is about.

Wow,
I didn't expect so many responses, and I certainly didn't expect to learn too much else about Twitter.

I think you're right with the idea of the mindset I was approaching with 'how do I extract value' vs provide.

Again, it helps when I get tips from people who are using it and finding it does have trememdous value.

Thanks again everyone,
I'm sure that benefited alot of people as well as myself.

Hey Eric,
You shouldn't ever need to pay for followers. When I first signed up, I got over 700 followers in my first couple of days. If you follow people, most will follow you back.

How i learned it twitter was used for basically one thing. Yes you can do some basic relationship building on it. But its primary function is to get people to your blog and facebook page. You should not be trying to make ANY money with twitter.

It's like anything else, it starts out as a good thing and then people ruin it. I use Twitter mostly to communicate with people I know or check in for messages if I'm away, i can send a quick DM to a friend. I try not to follow people that just are there to advertise. Seems like such a waste of time.

I did link my twitter page to my facebook page so If I update on twitter it updates facebook at the same time.

Unfortunately now people are trying to just sell junk instead of building relationships.

You're exactly right Matt. Perry Belcher really does know what he's talking about. He says you can automate a few of your tweets with links using one of the tweet services that do that. But you also need to enter conversations and talk to people.

If you tweet 5 links with one being a new blog post or capture page and the rest are @s and RTs you should be good to go.

It's a great strategy and I'm working on it right now. Glad to know someone else listening to Perry.

Hi Teresa and everyone!

Here is my two cents and I agree with Kevin, right on the mark.

To twitter or not? Ahhh...such an ambigous question. Like any social media tool, a lot of success with it depends on how you use it. If your goal is to add subscribers and spam your affiliate or business opp link out to everyone, you will not gain any value from it. I use it to find leaders in my niche to connect to and I too use tweetdeck to manage those conversations.

Spend 10 minutes in the morning, mid day and again in the evening communicating with people via twitter to build relationships and gain more followers. It's not rocket science but your best angle with it is don't try to pitch your offer via twitter. Setup a blog or point to your facebook profile and provide content that people may like. 80% of your tweets should be about something interesting and not directly related to your business. The other 20% would include links to your offerings or tools you promote.

I personally do not believe in auto following. If someone takes the time to establish a dialogue with me and I find value, then I'll check out their links and if I connect with them, I'll follow back. I used to do what most everyone does - autofollow. I have since started 'pruning' those I follow - if you haven't posted anything in months, I'm not following you, if all you are trying to do is sell me out the gate, I won't follow you back.

In today’s hyper-speed internet economy, you have to build the relationships by paying it forward before you get to the transaction of what it is you are marketing.

Here are some lighthearted, yet painfully true, looks at the social media phenomenon and the abuses of twitter.
