5 Burning Questions for Experienced Marketers

Postby Allen Gregory on Thu Sep 10, 2009 12:49 pm

Hey guys,

I just got finished talking to Tony Lauria about his I'll Do Whatever It Takes thread and something just hit me:

The industry is lacking something really major. There are too many people struggling and too many profiting without helping because of it. Maybe 'not helping' is a bit strong, but it leads me to a point:

1. What if each of us created our own social networks just for the people that were on our team and we had them pay a membership fee of which proceeds would go for a marketing co-op for PPC marketing?

2. What if we made an announcement to the network every time a new member joined and had everyone send an email with a warm welcome?

3. What if we did interviews with all the members who were having success within the network to let the rest of the network know that if they do some work that they could be recognized the same way?

4. What if every time someone in the network posted something outside the network (say a YouTube vid or a blog post) that everyone in the network went and made a comment to boost rankings for that particular piece of content?

5. What if we (BN Members) each had an internet talk show and invited each other to it so we could bounce ideas off one another and share it with anyone who wanted to listen in?

Somebody please tell me that this isn't go to work. I think I just stumbled upon a business model here.

Feel free to poke holes in this thing. I really want know why this might NOT work. I can't think of anything. I'm looking for responses from Dean McNamara, Tony Lauria, Richard Bravo, Kevin Dasilva, and anyone else who could realistically shoot this thing to hell.

I like #1. I think I read something that Mike Dillard did a PPC co-op when he first started out, and he would generate leads and spread them out evenly depending on how much money you put in. A good Idea.

#2 The only issue I see with this is that once the group got to over 1000 people, you'd be reading a lot of e-mails when you joined.

#3 Most companies do have their top members train others on live webinars. It definitely gives that person recognition as being a master marketer, and they are able to teach other people how they've become successful.

#4 I definitely like the idea of making comments and posting links to help everyone out, but what if you don't like the content they've posted. Also, if the group is hundreds if not thousands of people, you'd be doing most of your work making comments for other people's work, and you'd never get anything done for yourself. Mainly though, what if you don't like the content they post.

#5 The place to bounce ideas off of one another is already happening in Better Networker, and various other forums. everyone can look and learn, and there's no specific time as to when it happens.

I think your ideas would work to a certain size of the group of people. once the group reached too large of a number no one would ever be able to keep up with the work needed to keep things rolling. I personally think if you share enough quality content that other people are naturally going to make comments and spread it around for you.

Thanks Jordan,

Yea, I figured #1 would be pretty well received.

#2 Getting a thousand emails is a bit much just to have someone say Hi and Welcome. Maybe an announcement would be better and then the personal email would be optional

#3 I think recognition is a really big part. People tend to feel left out and then they get bitter when no one is being recognized because that may mean that no one is getting results.

#4 This is a big one. It's true, if you don't like it you shouldn't comment. I was just thinking along the lines of a traffic exchange. So if you do like it you comment and rate it and then that person does the same for you (but only if they like what you did). Great point.

#5 Forums are great but I was thinking more of a talk show. Something with video. I don't know how a video forum would work. It would probably be cluttered.

You know how Mike sends out weekly (I think they're weekly) emails about hot topics in the community? Maybe those could be videos or something.

I don't know yet but the wheels in my head are spinning and that's good. I just want to get more video content. A talk show sounds great. But with everyone being far away maybe a radio show would work best. Blog Talk Radio and UStream here I come.

Thanks a lot Jordan. That was really good feedback. I needed that.

yes Allen, it's definitely great that the wheels are spinning. All you need is one fresh and good Idea to make it big time. So never give up and keep thinking of new things. Also, this is a great place to share your ideas and get some good feedback. You'll also get some negative feedback, but that's everywhere. Never be discouraged.

Good ideas, thanks! :D

Rather than all those emails, creating your own online community for your downline team could be a better way to go for all of these ideas.

http://www.ning.com is a FREE online service that several successful network marketers have put to good use. Diane Hochman's My Private Classroom is an excellent example. It combines all the powerful technologies of Web 2.0 in a single resource.

Hope this helps.
