Hi everyone,
I have been using Godaddy for my domain registrar. I have my email account set up through them as well but I have had some recent problems with the email. On test emails I'm getting the email bounced back with an error. I contacted godaddy but they still haven't figured it out. I'm looking to switch providers and was wondering what domain registration services others are using.
Thanks for the input everyone. Have a great weekend.
Take care,
Matt

Domain Registration - Which is best?

Re: Domain Registration - Which is best?
Over the years I've tried many domain vendors. For a while I found I had 2 or 3 different once because the names all sounded so similar, it ended up being a mess. Finally I looked at ease of use and what was the SIMPLEST one (regardless of cost) I found cheap is not always better, Sometimes the cheap ones didn't work half the time, or when you tried to forward a domain name, you would end up getting pitched or sold all sorts of things along the way.
I picked the vendor I thought to be the easiest of use, and because the names were all so similar I bought my own domain Name and forwarded it to the one I chose, so I could remember where to go when I wanted more names.
The one I use and love is http://movedomain.com
It may be a $1 or 2 more but it also does not drive me nuts, Forwarding and email always works and it's easy enought for a blonde to do.
Hope that helps.

Re: Domain Registration - Which is best?
Just for domain registration I would stick with Godaddy
I have used two others 1placeforeverything and 123.reg but
Godaddy is my preferance.
Hosting is an other subject, No I don't use Godaddy
I like c/panel and Godaddy does not support it
for some reason

Re: Domain Registration - Which is best?
I have all my domain names registered separate from the hosting so that if I need to change my hosting some reason than all I need to do is load my websites to the new hosting and log in my registrar account change my DNS to point to the new hosting.
If you having problems with emails than its the hosting part that has problems has nothing to with your domain name.
I think Godaddy has linux servers as well that has cpanel.

Re: Domain Registration - Which is best?
Hi Matt,
From your email i am assuming you are also hosting your site with godaddy. I own over 4,400 domain names and use several domain registration companies. I have bulk accounts so I do not use godaddy but i recommend it to people because of the ease of use.
It's hard to say who is the best, so it is important for newcomers to use one that is trusted and easy to use. Godaddy is both.
I have over 4,000 domains registered with Domain People and personally i don't really care for them but i have been with them since 1995 (before there was a godaddy) and it is not cost effective for me to switch that many domains to someone else.
I do not recommend that you host your website with Godaddy. They do a great job of upselling people when they register a domain name. Just say no to the upgrades. Cpanel is easier for most people to use and i recommend that after you register your domain with godaddy point it to Hostgator. it is cheap and has a great support group. If you are using blogs they have fantistico and it makes uploading your wordpress blog real simple.
Most of my domains are hosted my own servers, but i have about 120 of them on hostgator and have never had a problem. This will resolve your email problems because your email will run through hostgator.
Hope that helps.
Jeff

Re: Domain Registration - Which is best?
I initially used 1&1 when I registered my first domains because they were less expensive. But as I learned more (and found that they didn't offer cPanel, and some other issues that came up), I switched to GoDaddy.
When I first read this I wondered if your sole reason for switching from GoDaddy was specifically because of the email issue you are having. But from the replies so far, it sounds as if you are also hosting with them and that's never a good idea (to host with the same company you buy the domain from). I didn't know that GoDaddy didn't offer cPanel, because I was going to suggest that you simply set up your email through your cPanel.
Good luck making the switch . . . I hear it's pretty tough to do when you host with the same company you bought the domain from.

I purchase domain names from godaddy. I use hostmonster.com - one flat fee to host as many domain names as you like - c panel, tutorials and use aweber for autoresponders.

GoDaddy to buy domains.
HostGator for hosting those domains.
Period, end of story - that's it. Nothing else matches the quality, reliability and customer service of these two companies doing what they do best. Don't mess around with any other company.
