I Hate To Sell

Postby Dave Kotecki on Thu Oct 08, 2009 8:21 am

I didn't know how to tell people about this article,
so I'm posting it here.

Everyone who doesn't agree with me that network
marketing is sales, please read this article by
Rod Nichols.

It's called "I hate to sell" and it's listed under
prospecting.

Perhaps you'll see things differently after you
read it.

Or not.

Either way, please post in this thread your thoughts
on this article.

Dave, I appreciate you for highlighting this article....

Sales is not such a Dirty Word...

Just misunderstood by the majority of people due to bad experiences and misguided, although surely
well intentioned uplines...

The so called "Sales" that most people hate is actually Horrible Marketing technique... and its no wonder it
leaves a bad taste in ones mouth...

It's like.. let's say you love Apples..... and someone makes you a Fresh Apple pie but they dont really know what they are doing so they add... I dont know... maybe a bunch of Tabasco sauce to the recipe.....

Now you have never had apple pie but you know you love apples so you think you must like the apple pie.... so you Dig in... And your mouth lights on fire!!!!! Man you will absolutely NEVER have apple pie again and you may very well think that all apple pie has this horrible ingredient.. and so now you HATE Sales... err I mean Apple Pie.... and you may never end up trying the Real Mouth watering Apple Pie that Grandma makes.... because it will be hard to shake that experience that had such a lasting impression....

Anyways I think my story may be a little crazy... but I hope it illustrates the point I am trying to make...

Sales is definitely NOT what most people think it is....

Sales IS Network Marketing and Network Marketing IS Sales.. but that's a good thing.... Maybe you are unaware of how Great "Real Sales" can be... Done correctly it certainly doesn't have any Tobasco Sauce....! :)

Yours in Success,

Roger S.

Good article! I agree with Rod on "Selling is finding the need and filling it." This new perspective of "Selling as Sharing" is definitely the key in MLM today. Because people hate to be sold on!

Thanks!

Thanks Rod and Dave,

"...but love to buy" is the other half of the equation, I guess. Friend of mine sold me on selling, everyday for a couple of years and I ended up with a favourable attitude toward it (and him). Not that I had a bad attitude to sales, I just didn't think about it much since Marketing in grade 12...except for subliminals and that. Actually this guy hadn't used his techie degree so we all talked him into going forward with it instead of backward (he was going to put on his old construction hat because he couldn't find work). My friend proceeded to sell himself through a temp agency, get in with the bank, sidle up to the computers and help everybody. But mostly he had this whole art of persuasion / education thing going on. Didn't he get into the largest bank in Canada as IT guy of Y2K and merging of the 2 top banks into one?

My point is to buy into selling. And never mind that people outside the industry sometimes see us as milking the public (well, actually...) because online marketing is smart.

Roger said it "how Great 'Real Sales' can be..." and there's nothing like it, no buyer's remorse if done right. It's beautiful, because the fit is perfect.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies. Until I read that article, I
thought everyone was of the opinion that sales is
bad.

There are others who use the techniques (and teach them!)
while telling everyone there is no selling involved.

I believe that this is just a lie.

Because the people saying it are attempting to trick their
prospects into a sales business by telling them they don't
have to sell. Putting up a sales page is selling whether you're
speaking to the prospect directly or not, and you sure do have
to sell your opportunity once you get them on the phone.

Thanks again for the feedback.
I'll continue to promote the awesome profession of selling and
teaching people the best ways to help customers and future
team members get what they want.

Selling = Success in network marketing.

Sure, Dean.

You sir, are a wolf in sheep's clothing.

In a good way, of course.

Great job helping yet another person get what
they want.
And congratulations on your newest happy customer. :)

I originally said that I hate selling because I hate someone trying to sell me something.
I found out that if I not sell, but attract customers they would sell themselves.
When I was in the market for something, I could not get enough information on the subject. When I found it, I bought it. I connected with the salesman.
I sold myself when I was in the market of what I was looking for.

Any time you put up a blog, a video of yourself or on your company, sharing testimonials, getting in forums like Mario just did sharing your face and information, you are selling. When you post anywhere online with any content for you, your business or both, you are selling.
r
When you "get the girl" and/or get married, you sold the other person on you. When you attract someone into your business as some like to say, you are selling. When you open your mouth and ask someone a question to get a certain response, you are selling. When you dress a certain way, or get up on stage, or do webinars, or video emails or whatever, you are presenting yourself (positioning) and selling.

When you do any activity were your means is to get a certain end result to buy or enroll, or do some action to get people to join your team and buy whatever you are selling, you are selling.

When did sharing and caring, and all that stuff replace selling, because they are synonyms pretty much, because regardless of how much a giver you are, or a nice guy or gal you are, you are selling if you are in business for yourself because you or I or anybody else in business has something to gain from the relationship and it's a business relationship and actually doing business together.

So Mario quit trying to sell me on attraction marketing, because it's nothing new under the sun (Jesus attracted many people good, and bad) and it's been going on since the beginning of man on this earth practically. Anyway, with all that being said, Chaio. HF
