I'm amazed at the number of home business professsionals I have heard lately who are totally clueless about personal branding. I've actually heard more than one person screetch with excitement because they had just ordered a blog hub, and now would be branded online.
What people, especially beginners need to understand is that branding is a PROCESS, not a single action. One article does not brand you as an expert (unless it is one helluva article!). One video doesn't make you the expert worth following. And one website, regardless of how great the pictures are will not personally brand you.
It is a process, a series of small, consistent contributions you make to your community. It is putting out top quality content repeatedly until people associate your name with "leader". Then, and only then have you built your personal brand.
Having a Hub is great! It's a terrific first step in the process of branding yourself online.
If you've got one, terrific! Now go make good use of it by bringing value to those around you.

Hi,
I agree with you!
Personal branding takes times and you must be patient with that. Sometime, people are not patient. So, it's just doesn't work for them.

Persistence and Determination is a must, training plus action equals success !And above all else don't ever quit.

I totally agree with you. It takes some time to get yourself out there in the beginning but all you gotta do is be consistent and do it. If you want to be successful online, you have to brand yourself not your company.

I couldn't agree with you more Dr. Bob!
I love my hub! (or as Mike D calls it - Nerve Center)
It has changed the entire way I do my business online and off. I have somewhere to post the best content I can create, the videos I make and even bits about my personal life and adventures.
I feel confident sending all of my traffic through it and the search engines are already starting to love it as well. I have first page rankings for a lot of my keywords.
In just the short time I have been using mine, it has generated more leads per visitor than any capture page or site I have ever used before.
It wasn't easy to set up but now that it's done, it is really fun to use and a breeze to maintain.
Everyone needs one!

@Erica,
Great blog you got there. Did you design it yourself? Excellent job anyway.
I wonder how beneficial it is to brand yourself as the online marketing douchebag...
??
But I see you in the 1st page of SERPs, so it must be working...

Re: I've Got My New Hub -- Now I'm Branded!
I could not agree more. Personal branding today does include but is not limited to having and maintaining a blog. A blog does serve as a home base for people to be able to find you and connect with you. One of the benefits to a having a blog as a home base is the ability to make the content dynamic and relevant. One idea we cannot get comfortable with is that the existence of a blog alone is enough. The maintenance of it is essential.
But again creating a blog alone will not brand you in a time when everyone has one. It is essential that you utilize the other means of personal branding to expose yourself and make yourself credible to your audience.

Erica, you are without question a marketing genius.
And people think I'm a bit off the hook!
Dang, I'm gonna have to go back and watch your whole series.
THAT is some serious branding.
Satan will be on ice skates before you lose positioning for that keyword.
Well done.
Friends, if you wanna see some serious Dark Side marketing,
meaning "way out there on the edge of sanity, good taste and acceptable behavior"
you gotta check out Erica's blog.
I'm gonna go tweet it right now.
P.S. It's waaaaaay too funny to boot.

Re: I've Got My New Hub -- Now I'm Branded!
"hub"
"nerve center"
"authority site"
They are all the same thing...a non-stop source of...
1. credibility
2. lead generation
3. secondary profits
If you build it and nourish it, it will blossom, grow
and bloom into a life long source of never ending
income for you.
Take for instance my website www.MarketingBestPractices.com
I've had that site up for 8 years now. It's my hub
or my authority site.
I generate about 20 - 30 leads a day at a minimum
without lifting a single finger.
In fact, I really haven't touched that site for several
years.
But go to google and type in the keywords...
"marketing ideas" or "small business marketing"
and you should see my site on the first page of Google.
It's been in those positions for 6-7 years now. It has
stayed there through all the ups and downs of Google
slaps and algorithm changes.
It has brought me amazing opportunities, publicity,
media, speaking engagements, book deals, consulting
gigs, coaching contracts and has generated millions in
product sales over the years.
Yes, everyone should have a hub or authority site.
Just my 2 cents worth.
