I came upon this story today and i had just had to share it. It’s really short but very powerful.

in 1831 he failed in business.
in 1832 he was defeated for legislature.
in 1833 he again failed in business.
in 1835 his sweetheart died.
in 1836 he had a nervous breakdown and was in bed for 6 months.
in 1838 he was defeated for speaker.
in 1840 he was defeated for elector.
in 1843 he was defeated for Congress.
in 1848 he was again defeated for Congress.
in 1855 he was defeated for Senate.
in 1856 he was defeated for Vice-President.
in 1858 he was again defeated for Senate.

in 1860 he was ELECTED PRESIDENT and held a country from literally imploding.

His name was Abraham Lincoln and he knew the importance of persistence. If it was not for his persistence the world we live in would be VERY VERY different.

Everyone fails. It’s a part of human nature and it’s normal. Some people fail more than once, but if you keep persisting and you keep learning from your mistakes you will eventually reach greatness.

We must all learn that failing is apart of any success you achieve. Succeeding at something must come at a price of failing first. If you don't know the true definition of 'failure' than I would recommend reading the book: Failing Forward by John C. Maxwell. It will give you a great understanding of what it will take to succeed at anything in your life.

I love the Abraham Lincoln story and have seen it before. Henry Ford is another good example. These men truly show that you need to keep at it, keep trying, believe!

The attitude I try to maintain about failure is that, in order to succeed, it’s necessary to fail.

Everyone fails.

The only difference is how you react to it.

For the successful, failure is only temporary.

When I am creating a painting, for example, the possibility of failure never even crosses my mind.
But I know that a lot of people are intimidated by a blank canvas!

The only difference for me is that I realize the secret.

The secret is that failures will lead to something you could never have come up with without failing first.

That’s right! Some of my best art has come from me screwing up.

But I don’t look at it that way.

I look at it as an opportunity to be creative.

That’s where the magic happens!

This creativity that results from screwing up could never be duplicated or repeated.

And it can result in some great work.

I believe that this applies to anything we do in life.

You might start out trying to be the next Mike Dillard, but you can’t — because there is only one Mike Dillard.

So this effort will fail.

What do you do now?

You become the next you, because there’s only one you.

You are the only one with your experiences.

You are the only one with your quirks and eccentricities.

You are the only one with your ideas.

Make the most of them.

And keep going.

@adam, yea i don't mind at all.

and thanks for the great response guys. I just had to post this because so many people get discouraged and quit even when they are so close. if you stick it out, eventually you will succeed

In my opinion success is directly related to your mind programming or lack of it. Unfortunately, this is a barrier that blocks many people from achieving all they could in this business.
