Hey folks, if you haven't been reading some of the posts here, or over at the warrior forum, or even reading Perry Marshall's newsletter in the last 24 hours, here are some of the headlines.
"Google suspended me..."
"Another big adwords banning operation?...."
And here is another one from an email newsletter from Perry Marshall I read this morning, and I quote, " One member was spending $1 million per year on Google selling coffee and they shut him down"
I read DOZENS of stories like this....JUST YESTERDAY.
Seems that big G is on some sort of tirade again, suspending accounts and sending out lifeless "sorry, but you suck and we are shutting your business down" emails.
I can't remember where I read this analogy, but it has become even more apparent that Big G is exactly like that "hot, popular psychotic girlfriend" many of us had in high school (or boyfriend if appropriate).
One minute she loves you, everything is going great, your the cool kid in school
And then she sends a text message saying "i'm not sure if this working anymore"
Doom, gloom and desperation, right?
Nahh, not really.
Here is my best advice to help you over come this.
Start getting leads from places from places other than just big G.
How do you do this? Well, for starters, download your adwords campaings into adwords editor, and take a look at them.
Where are you getting 80% of your traffic and conversions from? More than likely from 20% or just a handfull of keywords. (Yep, the old 80/20 rule)
Go ahead, open up a Yahoo and Bing account, add those keywords in, along with their best performing ads, and bingo, instantly more traffic and leads.
While your at it, why not go ahead and do a quick blog post, write some articles, do some videos, and some quick SEO for those converting keywords while your at it?
Be fruitful and multiply what works my man.
Now, if paid traffic and leads are your "thing", there are a handful of VERY good resources out there.
All geared to help you get traffic from multiple sources.
First is Jonathan Mizels "Traffic Evolution". Its all about media buys, banners, text links, and such.
The second, and I highly recommend this one, is "Maximum Leverage" from Daegan Smith.
Yep, I was one of those who went and got the course the first time to the tune of $1200.....and it was worth every friggin penny.
In it he goes over, in depth, leads from MULTIPLE sources, like articles, blogs, ppc, ezines, PPV, banners, CPA offers...all geared towards the home business industry.
http://Maximum-Leverage.com
I'll admit, I've been subject to that "psycho girlfriend" in the past. About this time last year, all of my ads on the content network were just turned off.....not even an email of an explanation.
At that time, I probably got around 95% of my leads from Google.
Boy did my pucker factor go up when that happened.
Anyway, those are some quick things you can do, and some top notch courses you can get to help you over the hump......and tell that "psycho girlfriend" that "hey, I'm gonna go date other people and I don't care if your good with that....."

Re: holy slash and burn.....
Google does this about once or twice a year. But when I read these things, I think that we aren't seeing the whole picture, ya know? It is kind of like someone complaining about being banned by Google from the adsense program who doesn't really elaborate on the what's or why's and if they do, it typically is vague and archaic.
I am not saying that the guy making 1 mil a year selling coffee and using google as the traffic generator was doing anything wrong but it is easy to make the Big G the bad guy when they don't care enough to try to explain their actions to the general public.
Squeaky wheel does get the grease though, right?

Here's something to consider ...
Fire all of the savvy marketers to make more money from the ignorant ones.
If you fire the marketers that are good at "optimizing" a campaign (read: less profits to Google) then what you are left with is the "amateur" advertiser who just throws more money at their campaign going after the "high bid." (read: more profits to Google)
Savvy marketers are not good for business to Google. That kind of marketer is only interested in one thing:
More profits in the pocket of the advertiser and less spending with Google.
Ignorant advertisers still think the "high bidder" wins.
Which one do you think Google wants more of?
Just something to think about.

I read one of these today that said, "These PUNKS sent me a pre-canned message saying: Sorry we have closed your account indefinitly and will not reopen it and we are not going to give you a reason why we closed it either, but thanks for all your documentation.....".
Now I'm far from being a Google expert, given the size, expertise and quality of people Google employs, I find it highly doubtful that Google would respond in such a callous and unprofessional manner.
As the "......" indicate, there is more to that communication from Google, but obviously the writer choose not to provide additional details leaving the remainder to the readers imagination.
Quite frankly, I feel that the writer most likely inserted his own take on the email.

Richard,
I love conspiracy theories. Perhaps Microsoft planted a mole in Google who suspended all the accounts.
In any case, this clearly appears to be more than the regular 6months to 1 year purging, as most of the reviews I've been reading are from long time advertisers who spend bookoo bucks on Google, not just the part-timer trying to make a stab at it.

Absolutely Kurt...
The scale and scope of this particular purge is way beyond the norm.
There's house cleaning and then there's witch hunts.
This smells more of the later to me.
I fired Google about 4 months ago so I'm not really sweatin' this, but I've talked with several buddies in the industry who were affected and it's the same story. Perfectly legit campaigns getting shut down for no obvious reasons. One was a $250k per year advertiser - poof! Doors were slammed on her account and none of us can figure out why.
Out of the 4 I know personally only 1 was even remotely close to maybe violating one of the terms of service. But even then we really had to stretch our brains to come up with that answer. These were all long standing marketers that feed their families as online marketers, so you can be assured these guys play by the rules.
My little "conspiracy" was somewhat of a joke, but not really.
Why are they targeting the accounts they have? I really can't say, but it is quite disturbing to say the least.

Seems to me that most people don't read the terms of service or ignore it. It's all in there. Follow it and you won't have any problems. I've been saying for months what not to do and that is to have affiliate links in your landing page.
As to the kind of advertiser Google really likes, it's the smart ones. They make more money from them than the ignorant ones. One only has to calculate it. An advertiser with a 6% CTR and paying only 20 cents makes them more per 100k impressions than one with a 2% CTR paying 50 cents.

hey kurt,
Thats key. Multiple sources of traffic/lead gen. While I don't do CPA marketing thats something that excites me. The numbers in that industry are huge. A partner of mine was promoting an Acia berry product for a CPA company, and he mentioned the advertiser had to limit the orders to 15k a day as they couldnt keep up with demand!
Another partner of mine and his team are testing his new product out before it launches on the CPA networks. They expect to do 7 figures a month with this offer. If it doesnt make 7 figs. a month, it'll only be a few offers a way.
7 figures a month sounds like a lot, but its a reality with the right offer and CPA networks. I'd recommend Mike hills product for CPA marketing if its still available.

Hey Richard,
I see your point, but...
One of googles main objectives is user experience, not advertisers experience. Ignorant advertisers don't make a user friendly experience like Google wants.
Its the users that make Google money, not the advertiser. Google can't charge an advertiser if no one is there to make the click. And if there are people there waiting to click a link, an advertiser will be ready to spend the money.

Has she gotten back on google yet? Has she tried? At roughly 20k a month, my main concern would be getting back on google asap.
Edit
=================
Heres a post found:
http://www.webmasterworld.com/google_ad ... -10-30.htm
Taken from post #:4013426, bottom of the page.
1. Google is going after affiliates on Adwords
2. They're doing this to improve user-experience, which is far more important to them than advertiser experience - IMO these changes are a bit overdue
I def. agree with this
And heres what googles policy is:
"Also, your site shouldn't mirror (be similar or nearly identical to) your parent company's or another advertiser's site. Google won't show multiple ads for identical or similar landing pages at the same time. This means that if another advertiser's ad leads to a landing page that's similar to yours, and his keyword has a higher Ad Rank, his ad will show instead of yours."
