Hey Linus,

Yeah I completely agree that "blog commenting" is the most powerful and beneficial... Your right on!

I was just trying to illustrate the power of commenting and to get people thinking outside the box... Which was something I didn't learn until recently!

But commenting on blogs that are popular will get a lot more traffic and most likely more quality traffic at that!

Read for the main idea and say what you liked about what you heard, listened or saw a video about on You Tube just as if you would do in a normal conversation. Because you have to treat people the same way online as you do face to face.

Just to throw a little mix into the bag o' goodies, here's a couple more "commenting" techniques:

Something to keep in mind with additional content outside of your blog or "nerve center" is that those are all additional points of contact and opportunities for interaction with your "fans." Not everyone is into video ... OMG - I know, no way huh!? But it's true. And just as true is the fact that not everyone reads articles or hangs on Twitter or Facebook. But practically everyone is active in platform or another, so diversifying your exposure should be a pretty major component of your overall strategic marketing plan.

Therefore posting comments on all of those platforms is as equally important in my mind.

Next is actual technique ...
In most instances your given a field to enter your name, url and email address for a comment.
And most people will fill them in just like that. But consider another possibility ... In the "name" field, enter one of your keywords. Nothing too longtail. Something really focused and professional sounding. This works using your blog address too. Fill out the rest as usual, but make sure you point the URL you enter to a landing page, an article or some form of "freeline" content is best, something relevant to the keyword you entered in the name field. (a direct link to a sales page may get you labeled as a comment spammer and totally defeats the purpose)

Something else to keep in mind here is that for this to work you have to post superior comment content. None of this lame a** one line junk like "Wow, what a great article." Loo-ooo-Zer! You have to back this up with MASSIVE VALUE. Anything less and the blog owner is likely to boot your comment or worse, ban your IP - not good. This is slightly grey hat to begin with so please take this warning to heart, I'm serious. This is ultra pro type stuff, if you play ball you just may hit a homer.

Why does this matter you may ask?
When you implement this technique, what you wind up with is a keyword rich "anchor text" hyperlink that is directed to a keyword relevant landing page. Think "Yummy Spider Food." Even though most blogs have no-follow links, don't worry about it - the link still counts towards your backlink efforts. And when you top that combination off with superior comment content you also position yourself as an authentic source of information in the eyes of the blog readers. I've also picked up "special request" link opportunities from blog owners whose site I've commented on as well as link requests from their readers who also own sites. All sorts of goodies can arise from implementing this process professionally.

Ninja Tip:
With all that in mind, go one little step further and look for opportunities to comment on posts and topics that are also relevant to the landing page and keyword in which you plan to link to. You now have a scenario for a triple strength link play.

b. (Blog post you are commenting on = content relevant to your landing page and anchor text)
c. (Your landing page = relevant content in relation to your comment & the post you commented on)

OK, one last note on commenting and I'll shut up.
Make sure you are asking for them on your own blog content and all content where applicable for that matter. The same principle applies here as with posting comments yourself; get as many as you can. Search spiders do look at comment activity as a part of the indexing process. The more active your post (content) is, the more "authoritative" it appears to the spiders.
And as Martha like's to say ... "It's a Good Thing."

In terms of increasing traffic specifically to a blog, it makes sense that the blog would remain keyword intensive. Are there any other strategies you have found that work?

One way is to make sure that you are adding value when you post and the other is to use your keyword when you post.

So for me, I put David Batchelor and where it says to put your url (optional) I simply put http://www.DavidsTrafficFormula.com and then put my comment.

That way it creates a live link back to my site.

Glad to see you break it down in simple terms here brother! I was kind of wondering where you were going with the paragraph above this one, but this made it a clearer picture for me in my mind.

But have you gotten slapped a bit? IT seems as though you might be pushing what is content and what is marketing here. Or am I WAY off target?
