Chapter 3 is on "Sales"

Postby Joyce Penner on Mon Aug 16, 2010 1:28 pm

I'm writing an ebook and Chapter 3 focuses on sales.

Can I interchange the word "sales" for "copywriting skills" and still be as upfront and honest about what network marketing is all about?

WARNING: Post a good comment and I might quote you.

Thanks,
Joyce

p.s. Read a cute quote today: "I'm allergic to BS, so don't give me any and I won't give you any."
Might make a neat heading for another chapter. What do you think?

If you are focusing only on internet network marketing, I don't see why not.

"Copywriting skills" is "sales" in the online world. As soon as you take it offline, then it would have to become sales again. I suspect that this is probably what would happen the majority of the time. But then again... that's not really sales either. That's relationship building.

Hmmm... I think I am confusing the issue.

Jim Yaghi doesn't talk to prospects. Joyce Penner does.

What is your motivation when you are talking offline? If it is sales (in the general sense), you probably won't be as apt to listen and advise. Somehow that just doesn't fit with my experience and impression of you.

Hi Joyce, I think we have to look at exactly what selling is. In my eyes sales means an exchange of something of value for something else of value. Is "copywriting skills" something of value? you bet it is. There are thousands of people selling their skills at copywriting. I think sales comes in two forms TANGIBLE and INTANGIBLE. Tangible is like selling a car, Intangible is like selling a talent you have or a service you provide. Good copywriting is definitely a talent and a service. So is it sales? YES.

.

John Carlton was a "copywriter" for some time before he learned "sales skills."
It wasn't until he learned sales skills that he says his "copywriting" effectiveness increased.

I don't think the two are the same.
I think both are vital skills that are integral as a whole, which make one and the other even more powerful.

Where would you separate it Richard?

In a previous life, I wrote the copy for the ads but I told the clients they had to make the sales. Now online when I'm looking at it, so many people use their copywriting skills to make the sale.

So can you define this before I get too far into this chapter.
Thanks,
Joyce

Hi Joyce, I would classify copywriting as marketing rather than sales. Sales is about helping people make buying decisions which mostly boils down to overcoming objections. Copywriting, if done well, can pre-empt some of the more obvious objections but it mainly focuses on drawing people to a product or service so that the saleperson is then selling to a targeted lead.

I disagree with Richard that there is a distinction between copy writing and sales skills.

The distinction is between good copy writing and bad copy writing.

There are so many sales being made with good copywriting and that's what made me think about using the terminology of copywriting to sell online.

In my previous life I would have agreed with you but see comment to Dean's submission above. There are many, many sales being done today with good copywriting (online).

Yes, you are right Joyce. We live in an "immediate age" and the internet has been largely responsible for that. People want it now and with digital delivery this can now happen, so professional sales copy is important.

Yes. It be good to see the word SALES has leader of the chapter, and subheadings which lead to Copywriting. Slap it on mate. Please make it massive, title EXTRA BOLD! Underline that baby, so maybe it get into some people one day..

It's selling!

I wish you could make that book like those holograms. So when page opens up, you got like that Tango advert.

Replace Oranges with Sales!

Where it shakes them up, left, right up and down. Throw them all over the place as they scream, while hearing...

'It's selling. You get it. Selling! You're in business to SELL. Now, tell me what you're in business to do and what sales letters do...'

'It's SEEEEEEEEELLLLLLING! Ok! I get it. Help someone..'

I wish we could have books like that. I'd buy the lot and give it to some people and watch as they are thrown all over the room, hearing them scream..

'It's SEEELLLING....It's a Businessssss...We suppose to make Profitssss...' :D
