The potential of Facebook is enormous. Learning to market on Facebook sure needs some help, but most of it can be quite commonsensical.
With an appealing fan page and knowing how to target the appropriate fan base as well as not being so direct about the fact that you are there to sell, you can make it. Direct marketing is sometimes very obnoxious.

Re: facebook marketing tips
My advice, don't buy systems. Facebook is no different than any other method of MLM...you have to meet people and talk to them. I have specific techniques, but do not believe in so called systems.

Re: facebook marketing tips
Yes, Facebook is a powerful tool, I've been busy with designing fan pages lately using CSS and Static FBML but there is something I've done with customers first on phone and asked..
"What information, research have you done to say that you need to use facebook?"
And answer is, 99% of the time is, "Oh, erm, well, none really. Just heard that it's a great tool to generate leads and.."
So I have to take people by hand first to identify where their target audience is. Sometimes your prospects are not on Facebook. Maybe they dominate more on Twitter. Maybe on Linkin.
I later find, they do not need to focus on Facebook first because they haven't got the essentials sorted. They haven't done their home work, the strategy and nor even their own site/blog. So I decline from doing that work for people and move them to what needs to be done...first.
So first ask...
1. What research first has one done to gather info, to say Facebook is really the tool a person needs to start with first?
Facebook shouldn't be the focus but rather an additional within a STRATEGY. That's how I see it and it took me 6 months before even considering Facebook and even now, I'm still talking to prospets on what they like to see on the facebook fan page.
Because it's not about us but the prospects needs.
Most I have found on phone, skype and e-mail do not even have a strategy because they don't build from ground up. They just going with the buzz.
2. Devises, tools like Social Media, twitter, facebook should be the last on the time table. Way, way back until the process is done. This process is..
A) Identify who your target market is.
B) What their needs are.
C) How you going to measure results. How a person going to measure the Return of Investment and this needs a question:
"What do I want to happen for my business? More subscribers? Or 15% sale increase? Or more engagement that leads to my blog?"
What does one want to happen in using Social Media.
D) Strategy
E) Now...choose the tools e.g. whether facebook, twitter etc.
But choose only one method. Get use to this method until you know it inside out then apply others - IF your info, research says, "this is where my prospects are and this platform suits my targeted audience."
One method takes time to master and I haven't even touched with what one can do with facebook and believe me, you can do a lot to even make it look like a website.
What shouldn't be missed is, it's a two way conversation. Use Facebook if needs be to..
A) Observe audience
B) To get the audience talking
C) To create a better product, customer service or identify more needs from the target audience
D) And get in with other communities to give value and reveal how you got the stuff.
E) Create engagement so you increase sales by first giving something. And in giving something to prospects, they MUST do the work too.
So if you got some products and create a competition - get the prospect to do something e.g.
1. Leave comment on facebook fan page.
2. Share etc etc. Give testimonial or provide what challenges they are going through.
What will happen is you'll start to seeing prospects doing more than expected. They won't just leave comments. They'll share their thoughts about your work and more.
That's how a person going to get leads than pratting about with systems. System with facebook?
First start with system of the overall strategy of the business.
Don't master something until you gathered info on ROI and if it's really neccessary when other vital elements needs attention.
One of them - Research and Strategy to say, "Yes, Facebook." It is only time consuming when one doesn't know what they doing.

Re: facebook marketing tips
Facebook is a great place to build your prospecting list. This is because it is a large community in one place.
To do Facebook marketing, you need to create a group account. You cannot use your own account as you normally do. Then build the page with the target group in mind. Give as much fresh and original content as you can. Use videos, photos etc to make your page professional. Ensure that you are not employing "extreme" marketing strategies but subtly introduce yourself and slowly distinguish yourself as an expert. Have links pointing to your squeeze page.
The next major job is to skirt around inviting people. This should really not be very difficult around a population of half a billion.
